Wow Things are slow
This site has really slowed down. Not as many posters. A least it looks like that.
shareThis site has really slowed down. Not as many posters. A least it looks like that.
shareDefinitely not as many on General Discussion. But seems fairly busy on the individual boards. I think the tide is turning now. It used to be busy GD and dead individual boards.
shareYea even Ben can't be fucking bothered with the place... just the "Mod" accounts left and their cheerleaders :D
shareYes, it certainly has slowed down considerably. I had a look at the trending section just a short while ago, and it seems that there are enough posters to keep it moving. But when I looked at most of the trending topics, it seems that it’s mostly just a few new comments, with the majority being older.
It would be nice to be able see the actual statistics, as some boards feature, and then you would know. But it seems that updates to this site have slowed to a crawl, so I wouldn’t expect something like that anytime soon.
Alexa show how busy the site has been http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/moviechat.org
shareThanks! I forgot all about that. I’ll check it out.
shareDoes This Site = General Discussion? Because there are plenty of new posters that I see on the individual boards, as well as ones I haven't seen on GD. And that's the whole point, right? That's why we came here, for the individual boards.
And is there a weekly "It's so slow" post quota that needs to be filled, because I didn't get that memo. I don't mean to be rude, but what is this achieving exactly?
I just get bothered when it's "slow" on the boards where I like to discuss things, such as I Love Lucy and Bewitched. I like to talk about the old shows! No traffic either at The MUnster board or The Dick van Dyke Show. Come on people!! There must be some folks who are fans of nostalgia TV!
shareit was tough to get a discussion on older series on imdb also - most people are interested in the newer series/movies.
shareI know what you mean. I grew up watching all those shows. I am also guilty of this. My problem is most of those shows
I haven't seen in 40 yrs so I don't feel I can contribute much to the conversation. Other than a handful of shows
that I have watched since then. I also get discouraged too easy when you post something and you get no responses.
hownos is correct, most people are interested in newer series and movies.
godewey-Oh don't feel guilty if you think you have nothing to contribute! I can understand your reticence to post if you don't remember an episode all that well.
I grew up on Lucy reruns (my mom loved the show) and I have all six seasons, so it's easy for me to post on an episode. I also have seasons one through six of Bewitched (still need seven and eight) and the five seasons of The Dick van Dyke Show. Also I have one season of The Munsters and The Honeymooners.
It IS easier to take part in the discussion if you are familiar with the episodes. But believe me, all contributions are welcome! You can find a lot of the episodes on youtube. Or if you read an interesting discussion of an episode, you can comment and ask questions. I just love to enlighten fans! LOL And there are other folks on those boards who love to explain episodes. We always welcome new blood. Only requirement is that you LOVE those shows as much as we do!
A lot of All in The Family are on youtube as well as Hogan's Heros
shareI will definitely make more of an effort. It's nice to know that there at least some other fans of those shows around here. Dick Van Dyke and Andy Griffith are two of my favorites. I have seen them enough that they are
etched in my DNA.
Been enjoying Andy Griffith reruns with my morning coffee for weeks now , dewey. Pleasant way to start a summer day. Saw another episode this previous week featuring a very young Jack Nicholson.
share...etched in my DNA..LOL I just did a marathon of the Ernest T. Bass episodes. As Barney said, " He's a nut!"
shareIn the episode where he was rejected by the military. A lot of broken windows in that episode, lol !
share...A LOT of broken windows every time he showed up! He only wanted to join the military to get a uniform to impress the girls back home.
Just watched "My Fair Ernest" where Andy gave him a make-over so he could go home and impress girls. Hoggette had turned him down and he was depressed and planning to live in a cave and "hermitize myself".
Love that episode. Why don't you let me heft you once ?
I'll set you right down soon as you say.
"How do you do Mrs Wyyyyleee?" lol
Ernest did find a girl as nutty as he was. Wonder what became of that romance?
I think there is some one for every one. Like Hoggette (pretty name) found the taxidermist
what sewed up her head.
I would have loved for them to have stayed together and have more episodes together.
Well it is French, it's a French name.
Ramona would've been an interesting girlfriend for Ernest. But that Ernest was a player. He chased Charlene Darling all over the mountain. Then he pursued Romena who wanted him to get an education. Well, he DID know the front part of the alphabet. What more did she want? lol
LOL. He also knew his boundaries. What more could a lady want or need ?
Of course he was no Jelsic Sturm.
That reminded me
Fire too hot, jump in the pot, Pot to black, jump in the crack.
I just watched a block of The Dick Van Dyke Show the other night on Netflix. LOVE that show! I guess that I just haven't gotten around to posting there yet.
I get a bit discouraged as well, when I find myself talking to old posts, but I still post!
See you there????
We can work on it. I see new people on the individual boards too. We must not get discouraged!
Yes, there are so many discussions about The Dick van Dyke Show that I'd like to have. But I go to the site and all I hear are crickets. lol It's so quiet.
I check in there almost every day to see if anyone posted something new or responded to one of my posts. But so far it's been like that song Rob wrote with an old friend,"Bupkis"!
We need more games in General Discussion board, they seem to attract people.
As for slowing down, I blame the summer. But no worries, the winter is coming. 😜
Good point about it being summertime.
shareWe need more games in General Discussion board, they seem to attract people.
Yeah crack that whip. You guys are seriously slipping on attracting more users to this site.😏
shareI try, but I can't figure out those puzzles. They're getting harder and harder.
shareOh, I hear you LMAO!! I try to keep mine pretty straightforward though. 😊😊😊😊
shareYes it's really slowed down.
Also in IMDB I never used General Discusion... and it looks like that's the only board with movement now. Sorry guys but I think your little board games and the profileration of US-centred news articles is having a NEGATIVE effect, and people are turning away from MOVIECHAT.
The Twin Peaks season 3 board is dead now, whereas in other sites, reddit for example, it's thriving.
I guess that people who really enjoyed discussing films and all things relating to films and tv shows have jumped ship here, because most of the individual film boards are dead and many new threads, nobody bothers answering them or joining in on the discussion, and if they do, it's just to troll.
I was one of the first to join MOVIECHAT (yes, chat about films board, who would have guessed) but everytime I'm less and less inclined to bother entering the site. It's a real shame.
Also, in IMDB I never used General Discussion
Yeah it's a shame though. Why call a site MOVIECHAT and then go there to discuss anything but movies (or tv)?
Most of the people who are here have zero interest in films, and are here just to pass the time discussing anything but, or playing silly games.
I'll check those sites out, but doesn't take away that I feel let down by MovieChat. I had expected that at least a large percentage of IMDB film lovers would have come here, but I can see I was wrong. IMDB also seemed more international and less US centred. You could go there and discuss any film from any country and people would be happy to join the discussion, but here 'not in your life'.
its way too early to write off this site - it takes years sometimes to catch on.
share"Most of the people who are here have zero interest in films, and are here just to pass the time discussing anything but, or playing silly games."
Not true! It may seem that way to you, but I have had conversations on the individual boards and I have absolutely no idea of what these game boards are all about.
I agree that General Discussions is something I never got into at IMDb. This is pretty much where this site started a few months ago. We came together here. Now? We are branching out.
I still prefer the individual boards. I will still keep posting and I will get responses from people around the world. There are others here from other countries other than the US!
I'm going to ask this again. Does MovieChat = General Discussion? There are thousands of boards here. How are we going to cover all of them? And how exactly are two game threads on a single board affecting the whole site?
I would argure that it's treads like this that contribute to the problem, since all they do is create drama, or the illusion that it's just a bunch of people having a pity party (that's trolling and those ridiculous "article" posts aside). If a new poster happens to come to the GD board, what is he/she going to think of this place, when they see people complaning that there aren't enough posters? Would he/she even bother posting on a individual board? Assuming GD is indeed having an effect on the whole of MC.
As for the international nature of the site. Yes, most people are probably from the US. I'm not. And I've encountered posters who are not from there either. We are out there (as I'm sure you, as someone not from the US either, would know).
Whenever I watch something I try to post a thread or a comment. If I see something pop up in Trending, if I'm interested in it, I check the board. If I can contribute, I do. There's nothing more we can do.
Is it less active? Yes. But are people honestly expecting IMDb? From what I gather, most of the other new sites are just general boards. Easy to concentrate activity on there. Here, it should be spread out all over. Not to mention that not all people want to talk about the same thing ad nauseum, they want to move on to the next thing. But if you've planted youself (general you) in GD and/or a couple of other boards and don't branch out, this would never work.
Also, making comparisons with Reddit or Previously TV is unfair, since those have been going for years. And over at IMDB2, they seem to be having the same discussion about activity that we are having here, so...
I'm sorry if my tone is pointed Cornelia, but honestly, I'm perplexed by all this, and a little disappointed by the negativism.
The Twin Peaks season 3 board is dead now
I disagree. Under the "trending" section, we're still consistently getting "1 hour ago" as the furthest time. Sure one poster can go under multiple pages, but it still is only an hour ago. Also on these general boards, right now the topic at the bottom has a recent posting of 25 minutes ago.
Having said that, I don't really see it picking up rapidly just staying the same. I guess I'm going to have to flood the IMDb Facebook pages again.
