The same thing happened to a Norwegian Navy ship, 4 of its 5 main navigators were female diversity hires and they somehow managed to sink it in a fjord:
This is why, when you pick someone to pilot such an expensive and important vessel, you don't hire someone who just ticks off diversity boxes and doesn't know what they're doing. If she'd actually done well in her training in the New Zealand navy, this wouldn't be an issue, but she wasn't, or she had mediocre marks and very little experience, so the New Zealand navy has nobody to blame but themselves.
