If Ukraine land and infrastructure was originally Russian owned and built then they might have a good reason to want it back. Like you agreed, yes give them back Chernobyl and the surrounding land. Russian could walk away feeling the gained something.
And of course more global pressure would put a strain on Russian abilities...many countries are supporting Russia and dependent on their resources.

Ukraine has done fantastically. they have 1/4 the population and 1/10th the economy. fighting off a behemoth on their border and constantly embarrassing and beating them.. this isnt some country attacking another one half way around the world and the massive supply and logistics that takes. this is literally the russian border, with Ukraine's capital only 350 km away from the border.

If you call being taken over by the US, pushed into a war that has lost them about 1/3 of their population to emigration, killed who knows how many of their remaining people, destroyed the country, and lost them access to the sea - because Russia will eventually cut them down to a tiny rump state so they ( meaning the US ) can not threaten them again, doing fantastically.

Russia has not been beaten. What this shows is that Russia was not any kind of military threat to Europe or Ukraine and was only forced to act militarily when the US CIA plots in first Georgia, and then Ukraine pushed them to react - and pushed them for many years - if not decades.
Russia thought they were going to win the war in a few months. That didn't happen. Now, Russia's economy is going South which weakens them as a "world power" in the future. Furthermore, they showed the world that their army is weak because of decades-long corruption. Wagner was competent, but Putin just killed off their leader. Putin and the Russian people want a return of their Empire, aka old Soviet borders, therefore the Ukraine invasion was the first of many. It would also motivate China to invade Taiwan if the U.S. allowed a dictator to invade neighboring countries at will.
Obviously, Russia, aka: former USSR, by whichever name you call them, has always been a military threat with their long history of invasions.
Trump couldn't stop Putin.
He could only impose sanctions which Putin would ignore.
He could send troops but, without declaring war they would be there for 90 days, unless Congress let them remain.

The best thing would be to publicly declare NATO would not expand into Ukraine and Georgia, tell Ukraine to declare neutrality like Switzerland and Austria and the US as a signatory to the Minsk Accords force Ukraine to abide by it and stop shelling their own citizens of Russian ethnicity in the Donbas.
