shareI know! I remember sex ed while I was growing up. None of what they taught me involved anything even remotely like that! I'll tell you what they did in the past while I was in school in the 90s and 2000s:
- they called it "Family Life" and in most cases, would have the boys in a separate classroom from the girls during the lesson (it was different for the two groups)
- for both groups, we learned about the pituitary gland, and what it was going to do to change our bodies, and what kind of changes to expect
- we learned how our reproductive systems were built and the names of all the different organs and parts
- we girls were taught about the monthly cycle and not to be afraid when it comes for the first time and at what ages it usually comes (between 9 and 16)
- we were taught about feminine products that all women use, what they do, and how to use them responsibly (we were also warned about TSS)
- we girls were also taught that we can seek out the help of any woman if we have problems with our reproductive system if need be, most women will understand and help out
- Health Class in high school took this a step further and taught us about ways to protect ourselves (using either abstinence or birth control), STD's and just infections in general, and a health fair handed out pamphlets on how to watch out for certain cancers specific to men and women
Never in any of that time did the teachers ever teach us a.) about how the sex act was done, b.) about gay sex, or c.) how to use sex toys of any kind. In fact none of that was ever mentioned. In my health class, one of my teachers even said that a dating relationship is stronger in your teen years if you leave sex out of it!
We did sex ed in 7th grade, which at the time didn't make any sense to me. Then in 8th we were warned about AIDS and if you have sex you will get it and die. I was petrified and remember thinking all the girls were infected.
I don't remember anything about condoms but they did endorse abstinence. After the AIDs talk I am sure a lot of kids were. lol
Kids today are bombarded by so much sex stuff. I just hope they grow up to be somewhat normal.
My mother had "the talk" with me at about age 12. Showed me a cartoon book with old fat people. It was very non-specific and left me more confused than before. Not something I cared about until a few years later.
Kids today have unfettered access to the internet and all manner of degenerate shit. I had two teenage cousins making jokes about 2 Girls, 1 Cup, like it was no big deal. I'm still horrified at the very thought of it. The left works harder and harder to expose children to things they should be protected from. I remember my health teachers telling us as early as First or Second Grade how bad AIDS was, and that it was incurable and you died if you got it. They didn't explain at all why people would get it, or what kind of people usually got it. It wasn't until my brother and I came home and asked mom about it, that she explained the truth behind AIDS, and why we shouldn't feel sorry for most people who got it. (Usually gay men). We did feel sorry for people who got it without knowing their bed buddy had it, babies born from moms who were infected before pregnancy, and people who got it through life-saving blood-donations that weren't properly screened back in the day.
