Sad to see that...a great player. I'm a Cincinnati Reds' fan...that 1972 Series was a heartbreaking loss for the Reds. RIP
People tended to keep a lot more cash on them (or at home) back in the day also (for the reasons that you mentioned in your post).
I think Carrie Fisher was really beautiful when she was younger. Unfortunately, she didn't age very well (I thought she was a good actress, though). On the flip side, I think Talia Shire aged very well and got more attractive as she got older.
Acting-wise, I have to go with Talia Shire. I thought she was great in both The Godfather and Rocky series of movies. She's probably one of my favorite actresses, now that I think about it.
2...also an Australian Shepherd (she's beautiful and a mostly good dog) and a rescue...not sure of the breed (My wife got hera few years back...she's a little dog, but a real stinker! 😃).
Ha! I am a big fan of The Eagles, huge egos and all! 😃 I've never been a big concert-goer, but I always liked it when the artist stuck to the original version of the song (with a little leeway here and there).
Could Crosby have been jealous of The Eagles because they had vocals/harmonies that were better than even CSN(Y)? I'm just speculating there...but Crosby seemed petty enough to be that way.
Yes, that is it...well done! "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" by the long-haired Crystal Gayle. Another song I've probably heard at least a thousand times in my life, but never made the connection with the lyrics to the song. Thank you for putting me out of my misery on this! 😃
First time posting on this thread...I love this one also (just doing a quick "read-through" of replies)!
I've been listening to a lot of Celtic music since Christmas and New Year's Day. We had the really frigid weather and snow around Christmas, but January here in Ohio has been fairly mild by "normal standards" (still cool/cold, a lot of gray, but no real accumulating snow...although we might get some tomorrow).
Anyway, here is one of my favorite guitar pieces: "Citi Na gCumman" by William Coulter. I just love this...I think this might be the prettiest guitar piece I've ever heard (I learned it around 15 years ago or so...tricky piece to play, but it's so gorgeous). Here it is:

You seem good to me! It's difficult...I think what this game shows to me is how important the music is in regard to the lyrics. I have a "guitar player's ear," so when I listen to music, I tend to hear it from that aspect. But even songs like this one, which I've heard a bunch in my life, I just couldn't make the connection with the lyrics to the song. It's a fun game...but, yes, it can be maddening! 😃
Awesome! You are excellent at this...I look forward to seeing the songs you post. Even with the ones I have no clue on, I enjoy seeing the answers. It's fun to see what people's musical tastes are! 😃
I didn't overlook it...I just didn't know it! 😃 I have probably heard this song at least a thousand times in my life...and yet, I never made the connection with respect to these lyrics. That's part of why I find this so fun...songs that you think you know by heart...sometimes, you don't! 😃
I always liked a song Crosby did (I think it's technically with Stills and Nash, but it's really just Crosby solo) called "He Played Real Good For Free." I had an old CSN cassette tape that had a live performance of that song.
I never really listened to him solo...it was always either with The Byrds and CSN (and sometimes Y). Yes, it sounded like his feuding with McGuinn is what got him kicked out of The Byrds. I love a lot of Neil Young's music (The music I love from him, I really love...like "Needle And The Damage Done"...but some of his music, I don't like...like "Southern Man," for example) but find his personality very similar to Crosby's (he seems to have a rather high opinion of himself). I agree that "Thrasher" is a great song.
I do agree with stickman38's posts about Crosby tweeting "Meh" in regard to Eddie Van Halen's death was way, way out of line. Stuff like that just reinforced how opinionated and jerky his behavior could be. It's too bad, because Crosby really was a talented musician. But, then again, so many of our well-known and/or talented musicians have issues as well.
Yes..."Forces Of Nature," the late 90s movie starring Ben Affleck, Sandra Bullock, and Maura Tierney. I despised the ending of that movie...I haven't rewatched it since.
Yes...a hockey legend for sure!
Agreed. I sure do like Nelly Korda's golf swing, though...what a gorgeous golf swing she has! 😃
I think Henderson has now surpassed Lexi Thompson as the "Player who's a ball-striking machine that will win at least one LPGA Tournament per season, even if her putting isn't always the best." 😃 Winning her second major last year was really huge for her. It'll be interesting to see if she can keep it going over the weekend...she's usually a pretty good frontrunner.
A couple of more "older sports guys" here:
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Nolan Ryan
They're both in their mid-70s, so hopefully they still have quite a few years left.
I just had one about a year ago (for one of my back molars). While it's not the most pleasant experience, it's a lot better than they used to be. As xanthas mentioned, they do numb you and that took awhile to get right.
Mine was actually broken into two separate appointments, both lasting around an hour (second one wasn't quite as long). It's not so much "painful" as it is "uncomfortable." They have to keep your mouth open pretty wide and it's not the most comfortable feeling (with the equipment they use). The dentist that did my root canal was excellent about asking how I was doing, how I felt, etc. One time, I started choking on some of the water that was sprayed into my mouth (It lodged in my throat and I couldn't swallow it). If you feel any discomfort, don't be afraid to raise your hand and take a break. The dentist and assistant should be fine with that).
Good luck! I don't think a root canal is nearly as bad now as they used to be. Hopefully, yours will go very well.
I like watching Henderson play...she really gives it a rip with her driver. I agree, had a few more putts fallen, that could have been a really low round (62 or 63...still, 66 is excellent). When she's on her game, she can really golf her ball.
I think you and Drooch have both made valid points in your discussion...I enjoyed reading that. I've wondered in hindsight if, during the scene where Kimball meets Nichols at the tennis club, when Nichols tries to get Kimball to get in his car, would Nichols have tried to kill Kimball, had Kimball gotten in the car? I think it's a possibility.
If I'm not mistaken, wasn't that the only time Kimball and Nichols met in person until the climax? Even if Nichols had called the police on Kimball, I don't know if it would have made much of a difference. The police were already looking for Kimball. Kimball never told Nichols his whereabouts, so I don't think Nichols really knew where Kimball was. Only near the end does Nichols know where Kimball is...and he sends Sykes out to kill him.
Also...if Nichols would have called the police on Kimball (or alerted that officer behind him at the traffic light), that would have definitely been the"ultimate betrayal" and would have aroused Kimball's suspicions. I think seeing Kimball at the tennis club probably rattled Nichols (something he wasn't expecting). Sometimes, in a situation like that, one just doesn't always think rationally. I do agree that this is a "flawed masterpiece." I really do love this movie, despite its flaws.
Eddie Van Halen was one of the main reasons I picked up a guitar and started playing 40 years ago. A lot of people were like me...even if you weren't necessarily a fan of his guitar playing, his impact and influence when it came to guitar (and I'd say music in general) is undeniable. He was an amazing guitarist for sure.
Just from what I've read and heard, it was mostly the way that he treated people close to him. It sounds like he finally realized that he wasn't the nicest person and tried to make amends.
Since his death, I've seen tributes to him from Jorma Kaukonen, Stephen Stills, David Gilmour, et.al. Stills (who he feuded with in the past) stated he was on good terms with Crosby at the time of Crosby's death...there was no negativity toward Crosby in any of their tributes, so it does seem like it had an effect after all.
