You're right, there's nothing wrong with an actor wanting some work and it's nice to see an older actor still able to give a good performance.
I guess these types of articles tend to spin it as if he's doing it out of a deep connection with the franchise when the Picard show and TNG movies have shown that this isn't really the case.
Stewart interested in another paycheck.
I watched the film with the Japanese audio a while ago and from what I remember, the lyrics they sing are different too, even for the proper version of the song. The subtitles roughly match what they sing. The lyrics might have been changed to sound better in Japanese.
“No one will ever believe you”
Personally I didn't think her voice sounded that pleasant. You can tell that she's had professional training and knows how to sing but it just wasn't very enjoyable imo. I'm not a musician so it's difficult for me to describe, but her voice didn't feel very soft on the ears and felt like she was trying to break a glass with a sustained high note in parts. I'm not familiar with the song either so that might have been part of it too, if it's supposed to be sang that way.
They made a French documentary about the film about 7 years ago. I forget what it called, something like "Une Fois...".
Anyway, Sofia Coppola was asked this and she said that they never meet after this. It's supposed to be a story of two people spending some time together and then never meeting again, just going on with their lives.
Saying that, I think the ending was left ambiguous on purpose so that you can make up your own ending. I used to also hate media like this until I realised that unclear endings like this actually make the media more re-watchable for me as I can read the scenes different ways depending on my mood and imagine different scenarios of what happened next.
If want to imagine they met up again, there are a few fanfic versions of this on FF and AO3.
That's an interesting point about the times changing. The characters are mostly wealthy and used to getting whatever they desire. The war changes all of that and while they might go back to living in wealthy surroundings, like the losing the war they wanted to win, they lose out on other things they wanted.
Completely agree. Her red petticoat scene is one of my favourite parts.
I go back and forth between whether he actually wanted her a little or not. I did find he was the hardest one to think of what his "want" was so perhaps it wasn't Scarlett after all but growing old with Melanie which he didn't get.
While I think that Ashley wanted success, I also think it's own his poor choices that prevent him from doing that, such as not working hard as you mention. He was also bad at managing the lumber business. The best chance at success he had was moving away to work for the bank but Scarlett prevented that.
Saying that, he was the hardest one to pin down what his "want" was so it might be something else entirely that is more clear in the book.
No idea. To be honest, I'm not completely sure if she did say that as I've never seen her discussing it in an interview. Maybe people just thought it was based on him and it somehow got exaggerated into definitely being about him?
They didn't post under the wrong movie. Sofia Coppola has said that the movie was based on a similar experience she had in Tokyo with Harrison Ford. OP is asking whether Sofia and Harrison went further than the movie implies or not.
