well, he wasn't gonna paaaaaaadle to New Zealand Sorry, wrong movie it wouldn't be in the book because, apart from the Young Vito parts, this is a whole new story. That's the problem - that part of the movie is so unclear that we don't know exactly what Fredo did - did he open the drapes? Did he just give Roth information on the layout of the Lake Tahoe compound? Did he let Roth's goons in? I'm guessing he didn't kill the assassins after that ("if what I think has happened....they're already dead"). Without knowing that, it's hard to know Fredos intentions and motives sure - they sent Fredo off to run some mickey mouse casino or pick up somebody from the airport "Bon voyage mother-expletive!" how did you not continue that in to "you were good" ?! actually Heat stole this joke from another Al Pacino movie, the criminally underrated Sea of Love. And I wouldn't be surprised if they got it from somewhere else too. I agree, I think they were trying to downplay the serial killer suspicion (maybe so as not to tip the real killer off, not cause a panic etc), plus if the "lonely hearts killer" tagline was big news, that would have been woven in to the film - Al's boss would have been on his back to solve it as quickly as possible, they'd probably be throwing more detectives/task forces etc on to the case, Al being involved with one of the suspects would have been more well known and he'd have caught hell for it etc. The fact that we're not shown any of this suggests to me that it wasn't big news, or was kept away from the news completely. If you've transferred from imdb to mc, yes, I thought of Insomnia at the point too ! I thought an inside joke was when Al's boss is telling him about how he's got to wear a wire on the 'dates', they'll be backup in the restaurant, surveillance outside etc, and he says "what's she gonna do, shoot me?! We're in a restaurant" Surely a Godfather reference! having just re-watched, it's also a bit implausible that the young Frank is smart enough to make a jet pack but doesn't know what "5 o'clock" means! Even after Athea explains the concept to him, he still doesn't know where to look I know it's played for laughs and is supposed to be a light hearted, clumsy moment, but it just comes across as contradictory. I've looked through these threads just to see if there's anything about this - I agree, while I didn't think for a minute Bugs would actually die, I expected a better explanation - actually, ANY explanation! My best guess would that he'd replace Don Cheadle in the Warner-verse or whatever it was called, where he could stay in touch with the other toons and have fun wreaking all kinds of havoc in cyberspace. Like you say, it's like they threw that "he's really alive" bit in at the last minute - especially with those stills during the end credits, like they didn't have time to (or more likely couldn't be bothered to) make any live action scenes of the characters living it up in LA. Reminds me of the lazy ending of that awful Muppets reboot (the Jason Seigel one) - halfway through the finale song - oh turns out we're not gonna close the theatre after all so these last 2 hours have been a waste of time, whatever, f**K you - carry on with this stupid song. Ah ok, I thought the grandson was supposed to be 17, and, although it came out in 2021, for some reason I assumed the events were taking place in 2019 (pre-covid, a nice round 30 & 35 years after the other 2, the other 2021 releases I've watched were actually filmed in 2019 - still, I should have checked on that before starting a thread!). Thanks for the replies oh yeah, forgot about Ray's shop! that line did seem out of place after all Preston's talk about love, destiny etc. I think he was joking - at least, he was partly trying to make light of it and make Denise laugh and generally lift the mood while they're saying goodbye, and partly trying to put a brave face on, again for Denise's benefit. It is though a line that possibly should have been taken out in the final edit there's also a picture in the files of Agent Laslo (who Sullivan would have recognised from earlier meetings) talking to Costello outside a car. I think it's this picture that gets Sullivan's attention as he's skimming over the files and makes him take a closer look at these pages. The fact that Costello is pictured holding court with FBI agents means it's a bit more than "possible" - think Queenan's notes understated that one! That was my first reaction when I read the first explanation of this thread, but then I thought - after running away from the building, it's reasonable to believe Billy had gone in to hiding. This is because Sullivan wouldn't have to make a move there and then. He could get his address or whatever from the file he was in the middle of looking up. He could have told his unit to follow Billy, that he still didn't trust that it was over etc (and Billy had just watched him walk through to a standing ovation from the department so clearly carried a lot of clout and influence). So his only move was to get out of there before Sullivan had chance to put any kind of tail on him. thank you - and furthermore, why would they have north-facing windows?! It would also mean that during late autumn and early winter, the guests wouldn't get what little sunshine and daylight there would be because it would all be to the south. the problem isn't so much the fact that it's light, it's the fact that during that time, the sun remains at eye level so is beating through the window. Try sleeping in a west-facing room during the hour before the sun sets - even with blackout curtains, you still feel the heat and you're still aware of the light. Which leads me to answer pegasys9's comment.... glad it's not just me who's thought that! Not just LAPD detectives, but specifically dealing with homicide (OK, Hanna switched from robbery-homicide to homicide sometime in those 7 years between stories). There's been no effort to change the appearance - the hair's the same, he stays clean shaven, he even dresses the same with that leather jacket. And the line "wrapped up IN GARBAGE BAAAAGS" could have come straight out of Heat "McReynolds Is Wooderson" Actually I'd say Wyatt Russell's character is Wooderson. Just needed him to say "that's what I love about them college girls man. I keep getting older. They stay the same age. Yes they do" yeah that's also mentioned in the Dazed and Confused thread. It fits because Mitch would have been starting high school in 1976 and so graduating and then starting college in 1980
