I can't remember any old movies where people actually talk as fast as Kristen Wiig in that sketch.
the dialog style... so fast firing
https://youtu.be/sEtSEXizCxc Ghost in the Machine (1993) 4.6 /tt0107009 Donovan's Reef (1963) /tt0057007 John Wayne comedy on an island. PC warning: John Wayne spanks the leading lady. Yes I don't mind real lens flares, but I'm pretty sure most of these are CGI and not possible with real lenses and light sources. Some of them even look selectively placed. They do add a sense of intensity to the scenes though. JJ Abrams Lens Flare Compilation https://youtu.be/ALHiJaSPrns I haven't seen many of these, but this Terminator 2 promo with Guns N' Roses is nice even though the singer forgot to put his pants on. https://youtu.be/RHOUcqBVHlU Well, a pilot with suicidal tendencies did flew a plane into a mountain killing 150. An astronaut might do something similar. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanwings_Flight_9525 Who is Ally Sherry?
the scene right after the hospital escape where Sarah scolds John in the car
Did they mention why the rear projection was so bad here? Well, if there is film grain there must be film in a camera. Just like lens flare in your example, film grain is a technical artefact. Motion blur is controlled by shutter speed and is used to smooth the look of low frame rate. Without motion blur high motion scenes in 24 fps look terrible. Motion blur looks more natural, but it still reveals the artificially low frame rate the camera is set to. These break the fourth wall too, but can also be manipulated for artistic reasons. Film grain, low fps, motion blur, narrow depth of field, low dynamic range, limited color gamut. Lens flares can be technical errors or art. JJ says they are art.
