Ever wondered which decade was the greatest for films?
Theres only one way to find out!
- the fickle opinions of imdb users

Here is the count of how many films come from which decade in the imdb top 250

2000s - 55
90s - 41
50s - 30
80s - 30
210s - 26
60s - 21

Nice to see you from The Day After (1983) discussion. I’m glad you found the information because I was about to go look for it. 👍

Glad to help :)
That was an enjoyable lunch break piddling around in SQL , grouping years into decades.
like i said, i wasnt gonna count them manually , although it may have been quicker :)

You were right - 90s got significantly more entries than the 80s

First off, let me say how disappointed I am that To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), one of the best films ever made, was ranked as low as 82.
That being said, at least it was ranked higher than Lawrence of Arabia, the film that won the Best Picture Oscar the year that To Kill a Mockingbird should have won. Granted, TKaM is ranked only one spot above LoA, but at least it is ranked above it.

Next, here's a dozen films that weren't on the list which are some of my favorites, and which I believe should be in a top 250 list ...
Jeremiah Johnson (1972)
Local Hero (1983)
Spartacus (1960)
The Guns of Navarone (1961)
Glory (1989)
The Train (1964)
The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
The Last Samurai (2003)
The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951)
Forbidden Planet (1956)
A Thousand Clowns (1965)
Darkest Hour (2017) - I put this one last since because that list is 5 years old, it wasn't released by the time that list was made

I will never understand how something like Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009) could make that list yet the above films can't.

I do feel like newer films get overrated by fanboys. Look at how many superhero films were made in the 00's and later that fan boys eat up.

pretty major recency bias in play here, i'd say.

the letterboxd 250 is a little more evenly distributed & respectful of film history, perhaps:
