Bump
One man looks at a dying bird and sees nothing but unanswered pain. Another man sees the same bird, and feels the glory.
I agree, this movie was kind of a cringe-fest. Full of bad fratboy humour and annoying glamorization of criminal behaviour, something which Scorsese movie’s in the past avoided. The reason for this is it’s just an adaption of Belfort’s wish fulfillment fantasies. This c*cksucker ruined hundreds of lives and he gets a movie about his life.
Some people have theorized that Costello subconsciously (or consciously) knew that Billy was the rat, but didn’t care. As Costello was himself a rat anyway. He was more concerned about being a father figure towards Billy. In his mind, “when you’re facing a loaded gun, what’s the difference,” a cop and criminal are two sides of the same coin. Costello felt that Billy would never betray him, and he was right, Sullivan is the one who ultimately does.
I didn’t even notice there was one the first time I watched it. I mean the whole movie is kind of cartoonish anyway, so the shot of the rat is just a funny bit of tongue in cheek humour, which I appreciate.
Maybe in hindsight we should all thank our lucky stars the Beatles never reunited.
This movie was just a 2 hour episode of Stranger Things. The mini-series was pretty mediocre, but at least it actually stayed true to the book.
Probably because most mainstream films coming out of Hollywood are terrible and made for mass market audiences in every continent. Also social media has lead to more bandwagoning with people praising a movie to high heavens when they don’t realize they’re just a product of the marketing machine.
It’s not really a “ripoff” of Dracula as much as it’s an inverse version.
Lol, as opposed to a serial killer running around a city doing whatever he pleases with no real attempts to hunt him down other than two amateur detectives. Realistic my ass.
Lt Wolfe is shown to military cadets as an example of how not to lead. He is cowardly, indecisive, incompetent, and refuses to accept responsibility for his actions. His poor management ultimately dooms the platoon to infighting and their demise. From the very beginning you can hear he has “compass trouble” in the field, and inappropriately fraternizes with the men in their barracks.
Barnes committed flagrant war crimes, but it was obvious at that point he was beginning to snap and was going insane. By the end he wanted the others to kill him to put him out of his misery.
The Remington 870 “riot gun” was a popular weapon amongst US infantrymen in Vietnam, highly effective for jungle warfare.
“ UNIVERSAL monomyth theories of Joseph Campbell are about masculine archetypes”
And yet all the examples you gave and in text books are male. Hmm, seeing a pattern.
“What about Ripley?”
Ellen Ripley is gender neutral. There is nothing especially feminine about her character.
“ Wonder Woman?”
The Amazons were most likely men that were mistaken for women.
Yes universal. It can be enjoyed by anyone. That doesn’t mean it has to be about Everyone. The Monomyth is about masculine archetypes. Not transgender, black, disabled midgets.
It’s enforced on a state by state basis. It wouldn’t matter anyway because the country is only as strong as the weakest link in the chain. But USA doesn’t have the authoritarian/collective will to truly enforce a nationwide lockdown on par with other countries. The best they can do is issue citations or warnings.
Star Wars is a boy’s tale. It’s about male swashbucklers, not female ones. Women staving off suitors is not the same as going on a hero’s journey.
In the book Tommy was just transferred to another low security prison in exchange for his silence. I guess the scriptwriter had to spice things up a bit for the film.
Tom Hanks was initially interested in the role. Although if you think about it, the main character was really Red. Morgan Freeman carries the film.
They could have climbed on the roof and just pushed off anything that tried to climb up there. The problem is the undead are persistent and would just keep congregating until they were surrounded and trapped.
