Does anyone actually celebrate Kwanzaa? I've never heard any Black coworkers at any of my jobs mention this day. Save the holiday season. I don't care for New Year's Day, either, because it signals the end of the holidays. This means having to wait another ten months for the return of Halloween, which I consider the kick-off to the holiday season. I don't use alcohol nor do I participate in loud, drunken parties. Like you said, you hang up a new calendar. Big deal. There isn't much to look forward to for the next ten months, especially the upcoming miserable summer heat, which seems to be starting earlier and hanging around longer. Save the holiday season. The best night of the year. Save the holiday season. Do your wife and daughter like Christmas? Save the holiday season. Thanks for the info. Toronto sounds similar to where I live (the northern central U.S.) It was the mid- to late-1990s when I started noticing this warming trend. It appears to be getting progressively worse with no sign of letting up. So sad. Save the holiday season. We may find out in 2030. Many scientists believe that Europa (one of Jupiter's moons) may have an ocean under its icy crust which could possibly support life. A probe called the Europa Clipper was launched on October 14, 2024. The goals of Europa Clipper are to explore Europa, investigate its habitability and aid in the selection of a landing site for the proposed Europa Lander. This exploration is focused on understanding the three main requirements for life: liquid water, chemistry, and energy. Specifically, the objectives are to study: • Ice shell and ocean: Confirm the existence and characterize the nature of water within or beneath the ice, and study processes of surface-ice-ocean exchange. • Composition: Distribution and chemistry of key compounds and the links to ocean composition. • Geology: Characteristics and formation of surface features, including sites of recent or current activity. The spacecraft carries scientific instruments which will be used to analyze the potential presence of geothermal activity and the Moon's induced magnetic field; which in turn will provide an indication to the presence of saline rich subsurface ocean(s). (from Wikipedia; see the full article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europa_Clipper) Save the holiday season. "It ain't Christmas without snow." I agree 100%. Global warming is ruining Christmas. A white Christmas was pretty much a given in my area until recent years. Lately there has been this trend of the temperature warming up the week before the holiday, melting all of the snow. It happened again this previous weekend; the little snow we had has disappeared. More snow is predicted for Thursday but another warmup is expected on December 24. Last year on Christmas Eve the highs were 30 degrees (!) above normal. If this continues I am seriously considering moving further north. The warmer weather from the southern latitudes is slowly creeping northward. Is Canada being affected by this? There's a guy who is a regular poster on another forum I frequent who lives near Toronto. He says they haven't had snow there for most of the past decade. How is the rest of Canada faring? Save the holiday season. Not a fan? Then why do you put up a Christmas tree and post pictures of it here? I'm not criticizing... just curious. Save the holiday season. I put my tree up on December 1. This is also the date when I begin listening to Christmas music and watching the movies and specials I have in my collection. Save the holiday season. That's my guess, too. They are making fun of the fact that there have been so many sequels. Save the holiday season. I root for the Snow Miser. Global warming is ruining the Christmas season. Save the holiday season. I'm SaveTheSeason, and I approve this message. This is my sentiment exactly, and precisely the point I am trying to get across... although I wouldn't use profanities. Thank you for the link. Save the holiday season. I can't see how playing "Christmas" music in November increases sales. Especially when it's the same limited songs played ad nauseum. By the time Christmas actually arrives, people are so sick of it that they wish the holidays were over. Shoppers usually have a specific list of family members and friends for whom they will be buying gifts. They will make these purchases regardless of the store decor or background music. Save the holiday season. Interesting. Thank you for the video. Save the holiday season. Christmas has always had both religious and secular aspects. Regardless of how one observes it, it should be a special time of year. This is being lost due to oversaturation, which makes the season routine rather than something unique. The old adage "too much of a good thing" applies here. Save the holiday season. Christmastime and the holiday season in general is becoming less of a special time of year. It's all about profit and materialism, not the holiday. I'm guessing it wasn't "cost-effective" for the mall to put up the decorations. All of the hype and oversaturation have ruined it. Some places begin promoting "Christmas" as early as October. I've heard people in December remark that they are "sick of Christmas" and will be glad when it's over. So sad. Save the holiday season. Thank you for that link. Save the holiday season. A Christmas Carol (1971). I'm talking about the animated TV special which was produced by Richard Williams and Chuck Jones (of Looney Tunes fame). This is probably the most faithful adaptation of the story, with the character and background designs made to look like pen-and-ink drawings. The only flaw is they were given only 25 minutes to tell the tale, which meant a rapid presentation of the story. I really wish they would have expanded this to two hours. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Christmas_Carol_(TV_special) You can watch it on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUZfW1W_CMM Save the holiday season. I am almost certain that my parents made their tree, too. I remember them taking some ceramics classes and this was one of the projects. Save the holiday season.
