I have the ceramic lighted Christmas tree just like the one on the left in the photo. My parents had it and gave it to me years ago, but it's in a box somewhere. One of these days I'm going to find it. Save the holiday season. That's sad, but in some ways not a big loss because the networks would cut these specials so they could add more commercials. I haven't watched the broadcasts in years because of this. I have a lot of these programs on my hard drive or on DVD. Save the holiday season. Same here. The few that still air on broadcast TV have been cut to add more commercial time, so I don't bother watching. Many of these specials haven't been seen on TV in decades. Save the holiday season. Another vote for Rudolph. I also like The Year Without a Santa Claus. The Miser Brothers rule. Save the holiday season. Yes, it holds up. This is another special that I watch every year. Save the holiday season. After Garfield falls from the tree he says, "Whoever invented Christmas trees should be drug out into the street and shot." This line would never get past the censors today. I think it's a funny comment, but there are those who would be offended by this and would demand that it be cut. Now that I think of it, when was the last time this program aired on network TV? I haven't seen it advertised in years. Maybe it was taken off the air because of the previously-mentioned "offensive" remark. I'm glad I have this in my collection. It's another special that I watch every year. Save the holiday season. The brothers' comments about Binky: the Clown Who Saved Christmas were hilarious. Did they truly believe the story was going to end differently this time? These bits of subtle humor are what makes this special so great. Save the holiday season. I enjoy this special, too, but I like Garfield's Thanksgiving a bit more. Save the holiday season. I never heard of this "game." The fact that it's called "Dirty Santa" should be a red flag. Christmas isn't about stealing. Save the holiday season. Mr. Limpet appears at the very end of the "Under the Sea" musical sequence: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/c4/f5/20/c4f520efe5ead980f3f87f50e53c6d59--disney-movies-easter-eggs.jpg Save the holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving Day and enjoy the day after. Those of you who still get a four-day weekend should be extra grateful. Save the holiday season. The destruction of the holiday season is a very serious matter. We need a special time of year, something to look forward to, otherwise life would be pretty dreary. Running in constant high gear 24/7/365 isn't healthy and leads to burnout. We need a rhythm to life and balance. There is a time for working and running the rat race, and a time for enjoyment. The latter is being slowly edged out. Save the holiday season. 1. Do you enjoy putting ornaments on your Christmas tree? Yes. I will be doing this on December 1, not before. November, especially before Thanksgiving Day, is too early for Christmas decorations. Doing this cheapens and trivializes what should be a special time of year. 2. Do you prefer white lights or multicolored lights on your tree? Multicolored lights. 3. Yes or no to tinsel? I have a tinsel garland. I don't use the individual strands. 4. Yes or no to strings of popcorn or beads? No. Too tedious and messy. I wouldn't want stale popcorn on the tree, either. 5. Is your tree real or artificial? Artificial. I've heard that Christmas tree lots are over-priced. I have an artificial tree that I paid for once and am getting years of usage out of it. It's better for the environment because it saves real trees. Save the holiday season. 1. Referring to the day after Thanksgiving as "Black Friday." Thanksgiving Day itself gets almost zero mention anymore. A day for being grateful for what we have has been supplanted by the created need for more unnecessary material goods. Call the day by its proper designation which is, simply, the day after Thanksgiving. 2. The Hallmark Channel and its "Christmas in July" programming. Who wants to watch "Christmas" movies during the miserable summer heat? 3. The pop song "Last Christmas" originally by Wham! This drivel is about an unsuccessful attempt at a relationship, which could take place anytime of the year. The addition of sleigh bells in the background does not make this a "Christmas" song. 4. Radio stations switching to a 24-hour "Christmas" music format in November. It's way too early for this, and it's the same limited playlist aired ad nauseum for six to seven weeks. By the time December 25 arrives, people are so sick of it that they wish the holidays were over. 5. Daylight Savings Time. Halloween was ruined when the U.S. Congress extended Daylight Stupid Time into November, and Canada followed suit. Kids now lose a whole hour of trick-or-treating time because the clocks are set incorrectly. Let's not cheapen and trivialize what should be a special time of the year. Save the holiday season. This Wikipedia article might help: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Lost_Philippine_films Save the holiday season. It's called global warming and it's nothing to joke about. The warmer weather from the southern latitudes is creeping northward, ruining Christmas in my area. In recent years we've been having a warm-up the week before Christmas which ends up melting all of the snow. Last year the temperature was thirty degrees above normal on Christmas Eve. If this continues I am seriously considering moving further north. Save the holiday season. I don't recall this, but I do remember one or two of the networks running their Saturday morning programming line-up on the day after Thanksgiving. It made sense since kids were home that day. It was like getting two Saturday mornings in a row. Save the holiday season. I just watched this a couple of nights ago. One of my favorites. Save the holiday season. I am a firm believer in "home for the holidays" with a traditional turkey dinner. I would never go to a restaurant on Thanksgiving or Christmas. Save the holiday season. I'm all for people getting their shopping done early, if that is an important aspect of the season for them. There are sales being conducted all throughout the year, and many offer far better deals than the After-Thanksgiving Sales. If an item is on sale in February and you know someone would like it as a gift, why not purchase it then and store it away until December? You could have the majority of your shopping done before Halloween and have saved a lot more money in the process. Plus I think it would be better for the economy if spending were to be spread out more evenly over the course of the year. There would be no need to ruin the Thanksgiving weekend. Of course, this requires planning and thinking ahead, which wouldn't work because too many people make purchases on impulse. As hard as we try, there will still be the procrastinators who wait until December 23 to buy gifts. Save the holiday season.
