🇪🇸 Tenerife - here we come! 🇪🇸

Time for some winter sun. 4.5 hours flying due south from ‘Sunny’ Bournemouth.

We’re staying here: -

Beautiful! Have a wonderful time and share pictures (if you'd like to)!

reply

Thanks - I will post a pic or two.

reply

Have you ever been somewhere snowy for Christmas?

reply

Now that’s funnier than some of your jokes 🤣

reply

It ain't Christmas without snow.

reply

I’m not a fan of Christmas.

reply

So what you're saying is that your wife forces you to take down the tree but also put it up?

reply

Lets see how he untangles himself out of that one.

reply

He's the King and I guess he can do what he wants.

reply

It’s good to be the king.

reply

I always put the lights away very carefully, so no untangling necessary 🎄

reply

You want to be a bit more careful from now on. That was a close one. 🥵

reply

I appreciate your concern.

reply

Not at all. Before my daughter was born, we didn’t bother with a tree (I waited until she was old enough to appreciate it).

reply

Then why did you introduce her to KISS? Why did you introduce her to KISS damn it?!?

reply

AC/DC - get it right 🤘🎸

reply

Not a fan? Then why do you put up a Christmas tree and post pictures of it here? I'm not criticizing... just curious.

Save the holiday season.

reply

See my answer above; it’s all for my daughter.

reply

Do your wife and daughter like Christmas?

Save the holiday season.

reply

My wife is Indonesian, they don’t celebrate Christmas there, so she’s like me and does it for our daughter.

My daughter loves the unusual places she gets to see.

Funny story, it’s Christmas Day and we’re in Sharm El-Sheik, Egypt (COVID is still a thing, but we manage to get away before the second round of lockdowns). A minibus turns up and she asks, “Where are we going?”
“Oh just the Mall”, says I.
“On Christmas Day? Booooooring!” She protests.
Anyway, we arrive at a Dolphinariam and I thought she was going to spontaneously combust!
The amphitheater could probably hold 600 people - there were 8 of us in attendance!
She spent a couple of hours swimming with dolphins. The entire experience cost about $50 US.
Better than a pair of socks, right?

"It ain't Christmas without snow."

I agree 100%. Global warming is ruining Christmas.
A white Christmas was pretty much a given in my area until recent years. Lately there has been this trend of the temperature warming up the week before the holiday, melting all of the snow. It happened again this previous weekend; the little snow we had has disappeared. More snow is predicted for Thursday but another warmup is expected on December 24. Last year on Christmas Eve the highs were 30 degrees (!) above normal.
If this continues I am seriously considering moving further north. The warmer weather from the southern latitudes is slowly creeping northward.
Is Canada being affected by this? There's a guy who is a regular poster on another forum I frequent who lives near Toronto. He says they haven't had snow there for most of the past decade. How is the rest of Canada faring?

Save the holiday season.

reply

It has snowed here for one day only so far and it melted by the very next afternoon. This has been common the last little while. I even went by my parents' place to shovel their snow and I was done in about 15 minutes which would normally take me at least an hour for the average snowfall.

Almost all of the Christmases the last decade have been green and it was near impossible to have a green Christmas in the 90s. I know Alberta gets more snow than we do usually, but here in Toronto it's only been that one day. Even the temperatures the last few years on Christmas day have felt no colder than in the fall.

reply

Thanks for the info.

Toronto sounds similar to where I live (the northern central U.S.) It was the mid- to late-1990s when I started noticing this warming trend. It appears to be getting progressively worse with no sign of letting up. So sad.

Save the holiday season.

Actually, in 2007 we spent a month in Japan, which was cold, but we had so much fun we didn’t really notice it.

They don’t celebrate Christmas there and Roppongi Hills was eerily quiet on Christmas Eve. Anyway, we found a tiny bar where a Japanese Businessman, who spoke very good English, insisted on buying me Saki, as I was his honoured guest.

I remember trudging through the show (only an inch or two) on the way back to our hotel.

Just one question

I’m sure he’ll find us.

I've been to the Canary Islands, but it was on a cruise. Lovely place - have fun.

reply

Will do, thanks.

reply

Enjoy, Andy... have a great time!

reply

We will, thanks.

reply

Wow! Gorgeous.
Have fun and safe travel Amigo.

Please send us pics, we want to be jealous😄

reply

The resort is amazing and our terrace is huge. We are totally self sufficient - I could go the whole holiday without speaking to anyone if I wanted to (not that I intend doing that).

reply

Just saw La Palma now I want to go to the Canary Islands. They’re not the typical holiday destination for Americans but I hear they’re like a Hawaii for Brits. Enjoy your trip!

reply

I can see the similarities. We’re on the quieter part of the island.

“ Standing proudly against the backdrop of the majestic cliffs that give their name to the tranquil resort village of Los Gigantes ("The Giants"), the Royal Sun Resort is set on one of the cliffs' highest points, with unsurpassed views of the village, the charming marina, and the sea beyond”

That sounds really fucking nice. Enjoy brother!

reply

It’s pretty epic!
