I walked out after about 45 minutes, thankfully a friend of mine works in the cinema so I saw this for free but it truly is exactly what you said. Also really unfunny as well. Only just read now that it's written by Chris Morgan who also wrote 7 of the 11 Fast & Furious films. Don't get me wrong the Fast films can be fun trash thanks to the ridiculous action sequences but Red One was just actual trash. Critics said the same for Beetlejuice 2 and I thought it was a weak sequel. Only 3 legacy sequels have been made that are better than the original and they are Mad Max: Fury Road, Blade Runner: 2049 and Top Gun: Maverick. I don’t expect Gladiator 2 to be as good or even better than the first but I hope it’s a much better legacy sequel than Beetlejuice 2. You’re not alone. How this is certified fresh on rotten tomatoes I have no idea, it’s such a soulless and boring film that goes knowhere interesting Certified cash-grab more like. The first film is bad bad This sequel is fun bad. There are far better modern slasher films out there such as X, Ready or Not, Thanksgiving and the Terrifier films but you can have a good enough time with Blood and Honey 2 I suppose. It is absolutely not and it's one of the worst comic book movie reboots ever made along with Hellboy (2019) and Fantastic Four (2015) This should have been a solid, low budget horror film like an Evil Dead film but with Hellboy but instead it's just a boring mess of a film from a mediocre director and a poor script. It isn't worth your time or money. I really hope this is the case, I really don't want his Venom in the MCU. I must admit I do quite like the lore and I think it’s worked out well so far for this franchise as Sienna has become one of the most likeable final girls in slasher history after only two films. I could watch many more Terrifier films if they keep Sienna battling Art and adding some new things to the lore each time, as long as the films don’t get bogged down in it with endless exposition then I’m cool with it. Just seen it and I’d say it’s the best one yet. Less lore and more gore, tighter pacing and the Christmas setting juxtaposes nicely with the horrific things happening on screen. David Howard Thornton is once again fantastic as Art the Clown and Lauren LaVera‘s Sienna is still a great final girl to root for. Overall if you enjoyed the first two you’ll surely enjoy this one. 1/10 Todd Phillips totally misjudged the fact that when you make a film to subvert audience expectations (like The Last Jedi or the final season of Game of Thrones) there will be huge backlash now thanks to how quickly word of mouth can spread online. Instead of making a natural continuation of the character from the first film we had this uninteresting, contrived, expectation-subverting borefest. Subverting expectations is the worst storytelling technique, it’s not clever and just pisses off your audience that paid to see your movie because you’re basically trolling them. Thankfully Todd Phillips has had his own expectations subverted as his movie has been rightfully panned by critics and audiences alike and bombed at the box office. He somehow managed to make a worse sequel than his own The Hangover Part 3 and I won’t go see any of his future films, anyone that trolls their audience is not someone I want to support. Yeah, all I could think of was Terminator Genisys but the anticipation for that wasn't as high as Joker 2, although Arnie returning to the franchise did get fans excited. The trailer however spoiled a big twist and also you could kinda tell it was going to be a crappy cash-grab. Joker 2 had good trailers but the buzz was numbed a bit when people started finding out it was a musical. Somehow it's 'fresh' but absolutely deserves to be rotten along with those other films you mentioned. Those are all 'fresh' on Rotten Tomatoes whereas Joker 2 is rotten. I can't think of many at all, films like Wonder Woman 1984 shouldn't count because they were released in the pandemic when most cinemas were shut. Terminator Genisys was not well received by critics (26% on Rotten Tomatoes) but it still managed to gross $440 million on a $155 million budget which still fell short of it's break even point when you factor in marketing. ‘Maybe the worst received movie, in relation to initial expectation, I have ever seen.’ It’s certainly up there, although I think it could be said that a lot of the hype died for it once people found out it was a musical. I think people are shocked at how boring it is though, it felt longer than the 4 hour Snyder Cut of Justice League. There are definitely worse comic book films but they probably still have some entertainment value. Joker 2 is just a very boring psychological drama film/musical and it’s a chore to sit through. Disagree, thought it had a terrible script that made for a very boring film. But then again I think Killers of the Flower Moon is a masterpiece whereas many find that boring. Todd Phillips ain’t no Martin Scorsese. Joaquin Phoenix is one of the best actors in Hollywood though, no doubt about that. Just got out of seeing it and it’s pretty much as bad as you’ve heard. The script is terrible, it’s as if Todd Phillips wrote one draft, turned it in and the studio just went full steam ahead with it. It’s derivative and lifeless as both a character study and a courtroom drama. Also it’s rather redundant as a musical, instead of writing good, original songs they just get Phoenix and Gaga to do a bunch of covers, it all feels very lazy. Phoenix is great though, at least he got a good payday out of this because he truly does deliver on his performance once again. The first Beetlejuice was fun as well as being a laugh out loud comedy. About 20 minutes into this sequel I saw it for the lazy, uninspired cash-grab that it was and wished I was watching the first film again instead. Just got back from the cinema after watching this and absolutely agree it's a 4/10 for the exact same reasons you mentioned. It was very much the same pitfall that Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire fell into; too many plotlines, too many characters and just lacking in the heart and humour of a far superior previous film. The comedy is the biggest letdown though, I barely laughed throughout the film. I'd love to have walked out with a belly full of laughter and a huge grin on my face but it was a massive letdown and I'm surprised this has been mostly well received by critics, it really did just feel like an uninspired member berries cash-grab. It was pure garbage wasn't it? I'll make a wild prediction that Knull will be in that one scene that we saw in the trailer and there will be a post-credit scene where Eddie goes to New York and meets Spider-Man. Sony will then have a Spider-Man and Venom team up film where Knull is the villain. Hopefully this film flops though and this crappy Venom-verse can end once and for all.
