Batman's image was based on a drawing by Leonardo Da Vinci. Some comic book characters have evolved from monster to superhero. Batman was originally intended to be a ruthless vigilante but never a monster. I believe Warhol was the only person to try and blend the Batman and Dracula characters.
I think it's the popularity of the horror genre that keeps this movie where it is. If original posters for horror movies is anything to go by, then this one beats them all. An original poster (the blue one that Moviechat currently show) has sold for $525,000. The only earlier movie in the list of original horror poster values is Lon Chaney's 'The Hypnotist' (1927).

I expect statistical quotes like that were used a lot in marketing back then. Product adverts and such. A lesser used tagline for this film is 'P. S. After seeing The Bat, 5 out of 6 people will pull the covers over their heads!' So that's how they get cold feet I suppose.

I like storms especially if I'm tucked up comfortably in bed. It's soothing to hear the sound of heavy rain splashing against the window. I like the sound of thunder except when the storm is directly overhead. I always thrill to old horror movies where constant thunder and lightning is clattering around an atmospheric old house.
I didn't 'get' the title at first but, on reflection, it works. It fits in with the naming of other B-movies of this period. The year before 'The Wasp Woman' was another female rejuvenation film. This time a vengeful woman does become a 'leech' who feeds off other people to maintain her chosen way of life.

I've just read an interesting article about the history of the tunnel of love. It seems as though they were originally intended a a permissive way for couples to get together.
I should have guessed that. I've seen plenty of WW11 documentaries.
I've just listened to the Burl Ives version of the original song on You Tube.
