Just saw it again yesterday and it scared me to death even though I’d seen it several times before. I watched part of it on my phone and was creeped out especially by the scene where she wanders through the house at night hearing Jessel and Quint laugh and talk. I held it up to my ear and listened— really listened for the first time — and boy are those sounds creepy. Miss Jessel panting “Love me, love me” while the curtain pull bangs against the window. Quint muttering something gutteral I couldn’t understand but which sounded demonic. And the child’s voice saying “You’re hurting me.” Just that much more creepy because you don’t hear a lit of it clearly. I’ve seen the Lynn Redgrave version. It’s a low budget affair shot on videotape. Redgrave is fine in it but it’s no competition for The Innocents in anyway. I don’t believe that The Innocents would be the same film without Deborah Kerr’s unbelievable performance. I don’t mind that she’s older than the governess in the book. Also, she doesn’t look forty; she could pass for 32-33. Also, she’s not described as a child — Mrs. Grose just says that “this is your first time away from home” — which was true. The closest to the book is the Jodhi May version; whole chunks of dialogue are taken directly from the book. But it’s not the masterpiece that The Innocents is. Thanks! Four years later, I found my reply. In this documentary on the making of the film, it says there WAS a scene at Miles’s funeral, but it was in the beginning, not the end. And it was cut from the script before filming. https://youtu.be/ZpV5J91BnV0 You seem to be obsessed with proving that the Winsors didn’t know the Battenbergs, which isn’t true. Alice’s mother Victoria von Hessen was very close to her grandmother Queen Victoria. And Alice’s father was the head of the British Navy until World War I and was a confidant of Edward VII and George V. George V’s mother Queen Alexandra attended Alice’s wedding. You are a moron and a troll. Goodbye. This is a ridiculous conversation. As a matter of fact, George V saved Philip’s father’s life when he was accused of treason by the Greek government. There are also photos of Alice as a little girl with them. Are you a troll or are you just obtuse? Alice’s mother was George V’s first cousin. Philip’s mother Alice was a Battenberg and she was a great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria and a cousin of George V. The Battenbergs were considered members of the royal family in Victoria’s time even though technically, they were minor German royalty. She always called George V and Queen Mary “Aunt” and “Uncle” even though they were really just cousins. George VI was a close friend of Alice’s brother, Lord Mountbatten, from when he was in the British Navy. So yes, I would say that George VI’s wife the Queen Mum did indeed know who Alice was. Just a guess, but since his name was Michael, I assumed he represents the Archangel Michael, who leads the forces of good against the forces of evil in the Book of Revelations. Notice how the black eyes signifying a demon was copied by Supernatural. It will be a CGI mess. View all replies >
