Smaug is a better digital creation than anything in LOTR, as are the Trolls, Erebor, Dale and even the goblins. The only CGI that looked shitty was some shots of the Orcs and Wargs and Radagast's rabbit sled. How exactly do you mean superhero movies? Other than a few goofy action sequences (goblin tunnels/barrels in mirkwood) the film is pretty well grounded in reality and told the story of the book pretty much to a tee. Why do you find it troubling, you think it will taint Jackson's legacy? See here's the problem, the polarized hyperbole saying the movies here were the "exact opposite" of LOTR. That couldn't be further from the truth, in a multitude of ways these films and their story are superior to the LOTR. You can appreciate both. How in the world did he not do it?? Thank you! Learn the definition of trolling. Those first two films were masterpieces. If he would go back and update the CGI it would still hold up Yeah, just like the trend of remakes. I guess the better question is what do people love so much about them? Entirely too much suspension of disbelief. These films weren't received that well because people expected a repeat of LOTR, but it was a completely different story. The party at Bilbo's was amazing, and who cares about the goblins the battle of Azanulbizar was incredible. Azog and his lead henchman that he kills are awesome. How do you mean too cutesy? Like I said does he really need the paycheck? They're not even close to terrible. In many ways they are superior to the LOTR films. The movies are very faithful. What are you talking about? Not sure, but also a good thought. Fair explanation. I still think Weta is capable of better. Yeah and Holm and Depp's performances were great D&D dwarves?
