I thought the lead guy was good, if not great. He played a regular Joe desparate for fame and fortune well and maybe someone with more star quality wouldn't have that cringey air about them.
I agree though, just a few minutes shaved off could've helped it, but at the same time I was never bored with it. Overall, a good movie. Definitely worth a watch.
Subjective of course; their first 5 albums are all great imo. Not sure what you mean by ....no LP in top 1000s till mid 80s. They had several top 10s and even if some critics dismissed them, which they did, it didn't stop the people from buying their stuff.
Ironically, a lot of Queen's albums back in the day were met with similar lukewarm praise from" professional critics".
In what way, or how, do you consider Led Zep "FAR" superior? Just curious.
Yes, if you like a sorta slow drama. I enjoyed the film as I was watching it but nothing mind blowing.
SPOILERS:
Yes, his step dad tried to have him killed. it was explained towards the end when Dr. Sherman talks to Jacob and says that his mother wasn't the one that set up the appointment in the first place (or something like that).
I think he was curious and intrigued about his grandmother, and maybe fantasised about those visoins; that wasn't as clear to me.
The original language is Danish, and whilst not a native speaker I can attest that the swedish dialogue in the show in episodes is pretty spot on translated, so yeah, I assume the writing is as you say.
Came here to make sure others picked it out. How ridiculous; that slob shuffles under a fence and Rosita casually just walks after him not even bother running. Geeeez
Definitely not. No jump scares, etc. More psychological maybe but not much, imo. It was pretty boring.
While I agree that people can get desensitized to violence in movies movies over a period of time it also highly individualistic. I mean, I enjoyed the movie but I wasn't watching it for the fact that I was thrilled about the murders. Millions of people have seen this movie, that doesn't mean they all enjoyed it and it doesn't mean they are all stupid and accepting of child murders either. Anything can be picked apart to the very bone by a subjective eye, but it's fallacious to say that it's just about this or that and also how you seem to know how every person who enjoyed it must have reacted to it, and thus being stupid.
I didn't say the movie went over your head but it seems the story of the children and the bond they form which ultimately leads to the final act's conclusion has. Personally, that is what I enjoyed about the movie; I reject child killing also, thus I cheered for the kids. You already acknowledge it drives the plot for the sake of the film, that's where I leave it - as a movie; as a brief visual experience, a story among many others.
I agree, it feels inspired by other films, just as the original source material was inspired by stories and I don't think there was a need to stray from the source material for the sake of originality.
By all means, carry on with part 2.
No wonder you can't see past Pennywise's terror - the story of the children and their bond have completely gone over your head. I should've taken that into account earlier, my bad.
But, once again - it's a horror movie. You have the burden of proof, so prove that it's an indoctrination video.
As much as m childhood self wold love a sequel, most if not all of these makes sense.
First of all, thanks for not taking my comment as a personal attack - I was genuinely asking out of curiosity.
I can only answer from my own point of view; I think they got rid of the racism issues because of the times we live in now, where there's a lot of political correctness and to incorporate that stuff might've eliminated some audiences, and since they updated the setting to the 90s it's not *as* prevalent as it was in the 50s when the original took place. And I won't spoil anything, but if the filmmakers are staying true to the book for the next movie more about Pennywise will be revealed when the kids are adults.
I agree with you though, not many remakes are good. It wasn't the best movie ever, but I did enjoy this one as a stand-alone while also having fond memories of the mini-series.
Your premise is summarized by 2 words that says nothing that would sell simply by itself; I wouldn't even call it a premise - maybe a concept.
"It's a horror movie. It's a movie about friends. It has bullies in it. It's about survival and facing fears."
Well, all those statements are also true.
Anyway, as you know the original idea is from the 80s when King wrote the book and there's been plenty of horror stories before and since involving children.
Just curious, have you actually seen this film?
How would you have preferred they updated it, except setting it in the early 90s, I suppose; and do you think it would not have upset more fans straying to far from the source material doing so?
That's like saying "let's make a movie about sailing" and then filming Pirates of the Carribean.
You're throwing a strawman and ad hominem attacks at one out of thousands of horror movies, and a pretty tame one at that.
Many people found it quite enjoyable and I personally enjoyed the struggle the children went through. It's not really a movie about killing children, what's wrong with you?
The way I took it after reading the book is that it's a matter of life and death and they end up doing the only thing left that makes sense to them. The very last thing; and I think it's somewhat unfair to call it an orgy thinking it in a 'porn' sense, but I understand that it's a conclusion which pops into people's mind when they hear of it.
Yes, in its most basic, laconic sense it's a morale boost in the book.
But when one who reads the book gets to that passage the kids have been through a devastating experience, seen the most unbelievable things, experienced terror on every level in a community stricken with horror and murder in which they've been ignored by the adults; they've wandered through sewers in pitch black darkness for hours and have absolutely no idea which direction to take to escape. They are literally on the verge of death and despair and time is running out. It feels like a completely hopeless situation.
It's not an orgy in the sense of ... shall we say adults doing it in porn, for them it's an awkward and uneasy experience and nothing sexy and arousing about it.
