The point isn't accessing the site or creating a new account, the point is not wanting to participate in a site that censors content. Freedom of speech should be absolute. Bluesky will be like the old Twitter, a one-sided echo chamber where no idea is challenged, no matter how crazy, as long as it skews far left. Why does someone sharing an opinion so enrage you, to the point where you start name-calling and insinuating racism where there was none? This a movie chat board. People come here to share opinions, and read what others have to say. There's no call for attacking someone based on their opinion. Why not engage her in a discussion, or share your own opinion, or simply leave her alone if you can't control your anger? You watch too much TV. RFK Jr. is not an "anti-vaxxer." Saw this article just now https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/19/movies/glicked-wicked-gladiator-ii.html Looks like I was correct, and they are trying to market the two films in tandem as this year's Barbenheimer! It doesn't surprise me based on the popularity of the source material. If it turns out to be a lousy movie, that may dampen some of the interest, but Wicked seems like an easy billion dollar film if handled properly. Get out of your bubble. The world is celebrating. Bluesky censors its users, making it a no-go for anyone who cares about freedom. It won't last any longer than Threads or whatever that other one was. Universally hated? He's more admired than ever. More than any other person-- even more than Trump-- he has saved America, and by extension, the world, from fascism. It seems clear that he's doing what he's doing because it's the right thing to do. The state had taken over the media, and was feeding the people lies. No one was standing up to them, and they threatened to censor and imprison anyone who dared speak truth to power. He called their bluff, and had the financial resources and fortitude to stand up to the subsequent onslaught. I don't know what circles you travel in, but Musk and Trump are regarded as heroes around the world now. I don't, either, but my sense is that because the two films have opposite audiences and open on the same day, marketers will try to position them as the next Barbenheimer. I'd never heard of her, and thought she might be a movie critic, but I Googled her and see that she is a political pollster. I know next to nothing about the film, and am only basing my post on what I read about the long lines and general anticipation for the film, and how both Wicked and Gladiator 2 open on the same day, and are both expected to have big weekends. Yes, there's another of the made-up things the media tried to convince people to be true in order to keep him out of office. You and I have different world views, and we'll likely never see eye-to-eye on this. I believe that the struggle is top vs. bottom, in that it's the government + corporations + their cronies + the media vs. the rest of us. You seem to think of it as right vs. left, if I read you correctly. Trump is in direct opposition to that top component, which is why there is such unified and vehement hatred for him from the top. They have lied, cheated, and stole, and tried every possible method to keep him out of office. Yes, he has an almost preternatural ability to muster support and win elections no matter that the top throws at him. Trump, and the team he has assembled, stand for everything I do, and apparently, based on the recent election, what most Americans stand for. He is: 1. Anti-racist 2. Anti-fascist 3. Anti-censorship 4. Pro freedom of speech 5. Pro-choice, but with the belief that each state should decide its own laws 6. Pro-gay marriage and equal rights for gay people. 7. Opposed to Big Pharma running unchecked 8. Opposed to warehouse and factory farms and chemicals in our food 9. Of the opinion that there are two genders, male and female, and that while everyone is free to live life how they want, as long as they don't harm others, we should keep men out of women's sports and women's bathrooms and locker rooms. 10. Opposed to a bloated corrupt government officials stealing our tax dollars to enrich themselves and their cronies, or to waste on inefficient government projects, and ready to drastically reforming our broken government. I believe Kamala Harris, and the left, are openly and inarguably opposed to nearly everything I listed, but if friends believe otherwise, I'm fine with it. I may be wrong. If I'm right, it's okay that they are wrong. We can still be friends. I don't know how valid a comparison Joker 2 is to Wicked. Did Ann Selzer predict Joker 2 would be a box office success? All the critics I know, and pretty much every article I remember, predicted it would fail. Being a musical was tertiary at best to what defines Joker 2, and I believe many who saw it were unaware until they watched it that it even was one. Its failure probably had nothing to do with it being a musical. Unlike Joker 2, which is an R-rated sequel to an unexpected hit, and a film that had no real built-in audience, Wicked is the exact sort of film that succeeds at the box office. It's a kid's movie. Look at the top 25 grossing films of 2024 so far. 8 are outright kid's movies, and at least 4 more are made for kids and grownups alike. It has a massive built-in audience. 65 million people have seen Wicked, and it has grossed over $5 billion. Nearly all of those people are likely to want to see the movie, plus millions more who never go to musicals due to cost or geography, but have long been curious about the movie. Lastly, it seems to have captured the public's attention. It seems now that most people only go to the movies once or twice per year, and when they do it's to see the film that everyone else is seeing. Like Barbie last year, Wicked seems poised to be that movie. Maybe not? I am basing this 100% on observation. I've never seen the musical version of Wicked, and have zero interest in the film version. Why would it being part 1 of 2 films affect interest? It's based on a musical that is the 2nd-highest grossing Broadway musical of all time, and as such, it has a massive fanbase. People have been in line to see Monday's premiere since yesterday. According to Fandango: "Wicked is now Fandango’s No. 2 first-day ticket pre-seller of 2024, only behind blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine. The film is also the best PG-Rated first-day ticket pre-seller of 2024 and the No. 3 best PG-Rated first-day ticket pre-seller of all time; only behind the theatrical hits of Frozen II and The Lion King (2019)." Expectations are that Wicked will end up grossing over $1 billion at the box office. The delusional ones are those who believe what their TV has told them, and believe Trump is a "successfully sued rapist with felony fraud convictions." A sham civil case and an equally fraudulent trial, both instigated specifically to keep Trump out of the White House, are inconsequential, and serve only to allow people like you to parrot what they've been told by the government in hopes of convincing others not to vote for him. Fortunately for the rest of us, that plan didn't work any better than the made up claims of Russian collusion, the made up claims that Trump supports white supremacists, or any of the dozens upon dozens of other media-made lies. You are more than welcome to believe what you want, and I believe in your right to speak those beliefs-- unlike Kamala Harris and the Democrats, who are openly opposed to freedom of speech-- and you are also free to choose your friends based on their beliefs. Personally, I think anyone who ends a friendship over political disagreement is immature, but you do you. You don't expect either to perform well at the box office? Yes, the U.S. has a long history of intervening in wars that it should avoid, but just because they've made the mistake in the past is no justification for it to continue. Beyond that it seems all you've done is call me ignorant because I disagree with you. If Mexico attacks the U.S. then yes, we'd be justified in fighting back. If Chad attacks Cameroon, that's on them. We shouldn't fund that war, or send our troops in to fight. The same goes for Ukraine. That's for them to sort out with Russia. We can still negotiate treaties with other countries even if we don't blow them up. Ukraine and Russia are both problematic countries, and neither has any clearcut right to the land. You seem to have some cut and dry, good guy vs. bad guy opinion about the conflict, but that's not the case. Billions, possibly over a trillion, of U.S. taxpayer money has been shunted off to Ukraine with zero oversight, and it's very likely a lot of that has been stolen by American and Ukrainian politicians. And even if that isn't the case, and every penny has been accounted for and properly used, the fact remains that the conflict there is no concern of the U.S. The U.S. aren't the world police. You seem to think Russia is going to attempt to conquer Europe. That strikes me as so unlikely that it isn't worth thinking about it. If you're right, again-- what does that have to do with the U.S.? Do you think the U.S. should fight wars with Russia, China, and whoever else is doing something you don't like? What about all the African countries rife with corruption, conquest, and civil war? Should we be there, too, or only in more popular places like Europe and Taiwan? Alarmist fear-mongers like you want to go to war constantly. Why? What's wrong with the U.S. focusing on its own interests, and letting the rest of the world focus on their own? If Russia takes back Ukraine--which is an accurate statement-- what concern is it to the U.S.? Europe can stand up to Russia if they want to. Maybe if we weren't always over there protecting them, they would have their act together and could do so. Russia and China able to thrive without American, maybe it's time the rest of that region learned to do the same. That's been made abundantly clear! You really ought to give up. You're only digging yourself into a deeper hole of humiliation. We've established that you're a weirdo who thinks people are going to post pictures of their significant others online at your command.
