It's better than Ted Williams'. I would encourage you to keep posting original things like your thoughts on film and stop using cliche words that Breitbart uses. Nobody but Breitbart and Fox News takes Breitbart seriously. And maybe the leader of Hungary.
Thank you therefdotcom.
Michael Shannon is one of at least 400 people who worked on the film.
Are your uses of the words 'libtard' and 'snowflake' in earnest? With the smiley faces I can't tell.
Thanks!
What are you talking about?
I liked everything you said in this thread until 'snowflakes.' Your opinions on this film are more than fair and are very well thought out. You also take a great approach to those whose opinions differ from yours.
The word 'snowflake' is used today by 45, who will likely go down as the second worst president of all time after Buchanan, and the likes of Bill O'Reilly, a man who choked his wife in front of their daughter and threw her down a flight of stairs sometime around when he non-consensually masturbated to a woman on the phone 3 times.
I don't know why you would think people who voted for Sanders or Clinton would like this movie; while leftists likely like artistic films more than rightists and rightists tend to prefer war porn like American Sniper and Hacksaw Ridge and MCU movies, I don't believe leftists are more in favor of bestiality.
Your thoughts on the movie are right on. Your dismissive use of the word 'snowflake' is not.
I don't believe anybody in the scientific or medical communities believes the first human to contract HIV/AIDS got it through sex; I thought it was understood it was likely through the consumption of an animal carrying the virus.
The creature also wouldn't have HIV/AIDS because of his ability to heal himself, and were Sally Hawkins to get it, he would be able to heal her.
You think Pan's Labyrinth is crap?
Do you have a link to that interview? That'd be cool to read.
I'd rate it the same. I don't understand the accolades; I felt detached from the film and the characters while watching it due to nearly every single scene being so short and a lot of the movie feeling like a summary of something. It was almost like a PowerPoint presentation of the book. There being as much voiceover narration as dialogue kept me from ever getting very invested. The only great scenes were two with Ronsel and Jamie.
I appreciate your anti-child abuse stance (and assume and hope it's embraced by everybody posting here), but your line of argument is weak. First of all, you're suggesting that in each US state where the age of consent is 16--which again is most--that there are more screwed up people and kids having kids than in the few states where the age of consent is 18. Do you have facts or numbers to back this claim up? Do you even know in which states the age is 16 and in which states the age is 18?
And generally, you seem to think in the blackest and whitest of terms. You seem to think that not only can no 17 year-old ever have sex with someone over 18, but that everybody who is 18 CAN have sex with anybody over 18. Are you fine with an 18 year-old with a 50 year-old? And would you prefer an 18 year-old with a 50 year-old to a 21 year-old with a 17 year-old?
I've disagreed with a lot of what you both you and bohemianroxie have said, but one thing I think she's right about it is one size not fitting all. There are mature teenagers who have demonstrated handling relationships with older men. Woody Allen's wife, perhaps unfortunately, is a good example. She's been with him now for 25 years. Maybe you think she has Stockholm Syndrome though. I agree with you that enacting laws to try to protect a large number of people who time has proven don't always make the best decisions for themselves is best practice. But I question your seeming blind faith in the ages legislators and politicians decided upon. If the age were moved up to 19, would you then have problems with a 24 year-old dating an 18 year-old?
Well it’s true I haven’t seen him in person.
Wait...are you calling American Sniper a romcom?
Brokeback and CMBYN are neither of those. Both are romantic dramas. If you're into great acting, great writing, great cinematography, and great production design, I suggest you check them out.
Do you mostly just watch American Sniper and MCU movies?
What was the point of your posting that?
It's certainly no Tom Clancy movie.
I believe Oliver had a hell of a lot of experience with men before Elio. Fist of all, I can't imagine someone with no experience with oral sex 1. diving into it so easily and 2. being so good at it (he appeared to very good at it, based on the look on Elio's face). Second of all, there was the bit about "not having done anything to be ashamed of" and "wanting to be good." I think it is very clear that he's been with men before and knows, it being 1983 (not that in 2018 we've rid ourselves of homophobia), that it's "bad" to be gay. As he says later, his father would send him to a correctional facility.
I agree that they had a very special bond and that Oliver's behavior wasn't predatory, though I still question whether or not a man well into his 20's should act on his feelings toward a 17 year-old. I know I wouldn't feel good about a man Oliver's age having a relationship with a girl in 11th or 12th grade.
