This film failed to match The Mummy (1999) performance, unadjusted or its sequel and barely outperformed the worst in that series globally..all three films did better domestically. That is a really poor performance. This is a very western based film series, the fact that it did only 80 mil in the US is bad. If they want to do this, they need to retool everything and you don't have to have them connect directly like MCU. They can be in the same "world" without one leading directly or indirectly into the next film. Just get a set of directors out there to create there own thing within the world. While Frankenstein and Bride should be connected, we don't need the Wolfman having a beer with the invisible man in a bar during those films. That is just my take, create separate good films rather than forcing the cinematic world aspect into each film. They did a great job in Ant-Man. If they could go back with the same process for Tron it would make a substantial improvement. While not in the specific area I live in but close enough, Wrong Turn (2003). I also do not live very far from where parts of The Blair Witch Project (1999) was filmed. I don't know if his % are true, but there is little doubt an American film earns a higher % from its domestic markets typically than foreign markets. Some of those markets you have fees with governments, some films have to find a distributing partner and they take their share and then its the theater take itself and that is just a few of the possible financial hurdles. Its the same with foreign films, Chinese films typically make most of its money from China and Asian markets, they roll the dice whenever they try to release something in the US because we don't typically respond the same as foreign markets do to Hollywood films and the potential for loss is high because the take home is not the same. Which is another reason why you get remakes and/or western actors added to films that they want to do well in the west. And to answer your China question, its because if it hits big..it makes a lot of money there and even with that lower take home you still do better than in most other foreign markets the film gets released in. For instance, Fast8 made almost 400 mil in China alone, even with the low take home that is more profit than in any single other foreign market, for comparison the next highest gross per BOM is Brazil at 41 mil. "I have no hype or interest in seeing part 9" I get that, when TLJ ended I was left with a complete lack of interest in the next film. I will see it because its the completion of this trilogy, but there is no way I am seeing it in theaters. It will easily pass Solo and may cross JL. Though to be honest, the fact that we are talking about an Ant-Man film having the potential to out gross JL speaks volume about how badly that film failed. It won't flop in the same way, but it will be an interesting result. Solo was not the first sign of financial concern. TLJ has been insulated somewhat by its 1.3 Bil haul, even though if you look at its run it shows people were tuning out faster than the previous two films. That film was below projections based on its opening and made 800 mil less than TFA. I think that along with Solo is what caused Disney to pump the brakes a little. I believe success for this Part IX is a gross between TLJ and TFA which will indicate Disney has issues to resolve but its not all lost. Anything below TLJ or even worse below a billion will be a distinct failure even if it does still profit. That seems very unlikely, given the state of the DCEU. But with the low bar set by Justice League it could be a success when compared to that. Craig, I thought Dalton should have continued as Bond. At one time it used to serve a critical purpose...to help pass the time in the bathroom. However with cellphones, tablets and other such gadgets it has been surpassed with far superior access to information and entertainment for a more efficient restroom experience. Other than its ability to sub for toilet paper in a pinch newspaper is obsolete. I liked the seriousness of Dalton's Bond for the most part. He still had bits of humor, but seemed dangerous in a way Moore and Connery were not. I have always wondered how things would have been if he had chose to do Goldeneye rather than retire from the part because it had been too many years. I still like both of his films over any of the Brosnan films I have seen. With the internet so involved now employers must get swamped with applications for in demand jobs. So unless you would prefer a soulless auto email, its just kind of the way it is. My wife is experiencing this, a lot of jobs applied for very few responses. What is worse however is she has run into a couple attempted scams over the last few months. What they think they will get out of an unemployed person is beyond me. I think he is still trying to deflect criticism of the Rey character by calling Luke a Mary Sue. Of course if Luke is a Mary Sue than that just makes the case against Rey stronger, so not sure why this failed argument continues. I really don’t get ignoring part 2 either, it’s a good film and works well with the original. They should have been able to write it from there if they absolutely had to retcon some of the movies. I would probably just stop using a movie chat board. While it is certainly supernatural, I would say its not like any of those shows. Its a comic based show, depressing at times, you struggle to like some of the "heroes". I have watched the first two seasons but I am having trouble trying to get up the energy to start the third season. I would say both Supernatural and Xfiles are more entertaining shows. Well DF, I have no real question for you but wish you the best of luck if you decide to leave or get banned..or whatever. I always found you an entertaining person that kept the board fun and active. A person this board ideally shouldn't lose if it can be avoided. Much like when they got rid of the stars on the streaming site, a thumbs up tells you really nothing. It just means you didn't hate it. With that simplified system along with getting rid of the reviews viewers are left with dodgy selections with a percentage system based on your thumbs up/down which so far has not been accurate for me. It is without a doubt a way to insulate some of Netflix's material from negative criticism and have people going into them largely blind. There is beauty but I think for her it’s more than that. She elicits a certain primal reaction perhaps. She plays very much that kind of character in the second Sin City. I just find it incredibly boring to watch.
