Numerous reasons; one being, a scheduling conflict (he's active, but not young: 82). Also, he may have been offered something, but wasn't interested. I personally don't see what part he could have played that would have made a difference. Edward James Olmos' role was important in that it gave K ideas on how to find Deckard; and remember, his character had the final words in the first film, and he let Rachael and Deckard escape.
Good points, but your ‘How are those bees supposed to be able to survive?’ flaws your theory somewhat. That place was like no-man's land, like a once before inhabited Outback. I like what you said about the bee's giving K a clue that someone put them there and is using them as some sort of food source. I also like the idea that he (K) may have never seen real bees before and therefore was simply mesmerized for a moment. Interesting.
I'm afraid you mixed-up your movie universes with the "neat wooden toy in Witness" comment. Deckard wasn't in Witness; that was Harrison Ford playing a different character named John Book...LOL!!!
She was good, but I wouldn't go that far.
Two reasons to conclude our man Deckard is a replikant:
Wallace tells him his original meeting with Racheal was staged by Tyrell, and that Tyrell knew he would fall for her, which means Tyrell had ""tweaked" both of them.
Deckard repeats a comment made by K when Wallace is about to introduce him to the new Rachael: "I know what I feel (felt)". This is conflict: Am I real, or was I produced with implanted memories?
Rachael: "I'd kill it!"
hmmm...Still lost.
LOL!
Yep. That's what he said in an interview. He didn't like how the film deviated from the book, though he still gave kudos to David Lynch. He's working on this screenplay and hopes a remake will happen.
I'm excited too!
nonsense. There's a reason for it. That's why this film is so good; it challenges you to think.
Voight-Kampff test (called The Empathy test in the original Bladeruuner 1982)????
Please elaborate
folks,
all the answers so far boarder on speculation...
The bee-protein-Dekard theory seems weak (no offense intended).
Today, bees are a crucial part of the Eco-system mainly due to the part they play in cross-pollination. Pollination=vegetation, but the bees in the scene were in what appeared to be a very arid environment, almost Saharan. Doesn't add-up.
Also, Although replikants are "superhuman" I'm not sure they'd be designed to be completely immune to pain. Could it be the bees simply lacked the ability to sting because they too are engineered??? (anyone catch the Black Mirror episode about drone bees)
Again, I am speculating as well, but it's only because the responses so far aren't convincing enough
Luv is Wallace's top assistant (assassin), and she arrogantly declares this when she thinks she has killed K ("I'm the best!"). The assumption would have to be, a person (replikant) that skilled covers their tracks very well.
What I don't get is why she kept shedding tears (or a tear) whenever something happened.
Looks like I'm going to have to sadly agree with you especially on the latter point :-(
I have absolutely no problem with anyone who watched the film, didn't like it, and came here to express their opinion; after all, that's what this board is for. If you read the posts, there are many who have no intention of watching the film, and have gone out of their way to come here and tell everyone to do the same, or they keep highlighting how much of a flop the film is because it hasn't done a gazillion at the box office.
LMAO!!!
Yeah, they're here to stay, but I wish they'd crawl back into their caves and stay there.
So well said, my friend! They are all miserable souls!!!
I could be wrong, but DNA is something that only applies to humans or "organic beings" , not replikants. I think he wanted the child so he could "reverse engineer" her, which would mean conducting countless experiments to unlock the secret Tyrell took with him to his grave. Deckard mentions this, and it's the main reason he wanted to erase her existence. He didn't want her to suffer just because she's a "freak"
Hope you're right
That’s why I’m confused. Trolls usually work to inflate ratings. These people are working the weird angle of destroying the film’s reputation to stagger box office sales...Like I said, weird!
Yes, you’re right about the contempt, which also happened in the precinct when I think he (or someone) was called a f’ing “skin job”. Remember from the 1982 film, “skin job” is in the same category as the n-word. I guess there’d be laws to protect replikants in such a world (i.e The Replikant Discrimination Act...haha!). Good points...Thanks!
I agree. His blindness seems to be some sort of badge of honor for him, so no one doubts his humanity.
