Robin Wright's character's question (potential spoiler)....

I know it was a come-on when she asked K, "what would happen if I finished this drink?" but it was strange to see the exchange. I mean, she knows he's a replikant, and he knows she's human, and yet the sexual formalities still exist. As a human, she must still find out if he would be interested or if he would be willing to cross professional boundaries since she is his superior (in rank). I was thinking along the lines of her just being able to give him the order, or flat-out saying, I would like to sleep with you.

Did anyone else find the exchange odd?

reply

As I noted elsewhere, she WAS flirting, but a totally one-sided, "it will never go anywhere" kind of flirting to amuse herself and (maybe) make K uncomfortable.

She uses him as a tool to fulfil her professional desires... as she thinks less of him for being not human in her mind (a replicant), she doesn't resist trying to use him for her personal satisfaction...

it seemed casual, as if she had used him that way before... and that he had submitted to her...

Her character is important as it shiws the contempt that some humans have for replicans as a result of the then political order... order which is imoortant to Wright's character... that's why it could never be more than physical, to do so it would violet the power balance between them

You see this contempt in other scenes such as how K averts his gaze when faced with (Human?) men while walking the streets early in the movie..

Very subtle way they included this.... I like it... also, yes, I would have obliged her very much ;)

Yes, you’re right about the contempt, which also happened in the precinct when I think he (or someone) was called a f’ing “skin job”. Remember from the 1982 film, “skin job” is in the same category as the n-word. I guess there’d be laws to protect replikants in such a world (i.e The Replikant Discrimination Act...haha!). Good points...Thanks!

no problem
