Soon 5x the budget worldwide. And critically, it is already well past production budget domestically (104 vs 80), meaning a sequel is pretty much guaranteed. I wonder where it will go.
Would be fun if the true reason for the nuclear explosions in Blade Runner 2049 were because a xenomorph infestation beginning in LA & Las Vegas.
If so, then it means there are five Black Goos then, meaning Romulus just added more questions instead of answering any:
1. The schnapps the Engineer drank in the beginning of Prometheus
2. The roofie David used on Holloway
3. The crowd control David used on Planet 4 in Covenant, which instead of mutating them (like Holloway), instakilled them without creating any creatures
4. The Spore that created ~~Dickbutts~~ Neomorphs
5. Z-01 from Romulus that created the Basketball Player
Season 8, Episode 13 - "Per Manum"
Some other woman than Scully gives birth to an alien. The little green man type of alien, not a human-looking one like William.
At least not "She/Him"
I got the impression she was just about dead before choosing to use it.
The entire last part? Even the end was fairly similar.
[Wild facehugger appears]
"Are you going to eat that?"
Wasn't he hit by a xenomorph?
Romulus.
Covenant was more in the AvP class, where dumb people do dumb shit and the script was written by a hack.
1. Alien 10/10
2. Aliens 9/10
--- (long silence)
3. Romulus 7/10
4. Prometheus 7/10
5. Covenant 6+/10
--- (long silence)
6. Alien 3 5/10
7. Resurrection 5/10
--- (next year)
8. AvP 4/10
9. AvP: Requiem 2/10
<blockquote>Funny thing is that I didn’t remember anything about Covenant.</blockquote>
Well it had the slapstick comedy scene: "I'll do the fingering".
It's been a while since I saw the movie, but I'm pretty sure they said something about that in it. Like they needed many of them to scale the production of the black goo?
It's easily the third best movie in the Alien universe. But it's still just a 7/10 at best. I rate Alien a 10/10 and Aliens a 9/10, generously.
The biggest problems for me are:
- The Drone seems underpowered somehow, not like a threat as it did in Alien
- Same sort of thing with the Facehuggers. In Aliens, just 2 were something you could barely survive with the help of your team mates. In here, the have never seen them before and automatically know what to do. And only token infections happen.
- The story itself is okay, but in the sense "I didn't leave pissed off because the story was bad". It does not have the "Goddamn, this was a great story! Can't wait to share and talk about it!"
- The last section felt really tacked on, and totally unnecessary. Even worse, it felt like: If they did cut it off, the movie would be very underwhelming story-wise. But with it, it felt like two different movies/scripts combined with some skill (it wasn't a total disaster - but hardly something that felt designed), but with a total lack of planning and time.
- A large part - too large! - was just like a reboot of the first two movies, combined into one. The oneliners from the original movies were nearly cringe. The best part was the Save station from Alien Isolation, and only because it was just a "cameo", not a trailer thing to show that "wowowo this is the thing from the first movie!"
So overall, it's only a decent movie in the series because aside from the first two, the other movies are total suck.
The main problem is, this doesn't have anything of its own. Everything in it has been seen before in the Alien universe. And what it does is not well-enough written to be good out of sheer quality.
<blockquote>The Black Goo does not contain Engineer DNA.</blockquote>
The point they were driving in Prometheus (and now Romulus) is that the human race was created from Engineer DNA.
Something like this:
1. The engineers created (or extracted) the Black Goo
2. The engineers created humans with the Black Goo (combined Engineer+Human DNA)
3. Humans captured Big Chap and extracted Black Goo from it (with Xeno DNA)
4. Human (Human+Engineer) ingested the Xeno Black Goo = Human+Engineer+Xeno
Maybe it would be thigh with someone
In one scene, they did mention "millions" of victims. So if the source DNA was "thousands" (also mentioned in the movie). So to go from a thousand exact matches to millions of total victims, it sounds quite broad, as that translates to around 1000 per match (depends on if thousands = 5000 and millions = 2M, for example). That's way more than all of your living parents, siblings, children, and cousins.
I got the impression it wasn't just her & the kid. It would have spread to millions. Saffin was just giving the two as an example.
Bond - Michael Fassbender
M - Colin Firth
Q - Vanessa Kirby
Moneypenny - Lena Headey
Felix - Idris Elba
Blofeld - Joaquin Phoenix
Director - Ang Lee
And make it a bit darker in tone, more calculated and driven by a singular goal through anything.
Well, if they make the next movie, it will be from a very clean slate, if they continue in this timeline. But I presume the next one will be Casino Royale Part 3 with all new cast.
Well, the next Bond is supposedly Idris Elba, ie. Heimdall :D
