That's why the original version has an extra scene of Laurie attacking Alex when they reach the dock. She explains she lied about being the truth teller, rendering the riddle null.
It looks flashier if she's free and out of the tank in a flash. Of course the audience can figure out she got out of the rope and the tank, but the point is showmanship.
You needed all 7 or the antichrist can reincarnate again according to the novels anyway. There were plans to do at least a film version of the fourth novel, but it was shelved. Using only one dagger was done in part 3 to leave it open.
They didn't have a specific medical officer. Dallas was captain, Kane executive officer, Ripley warrant officer, Ash science officer, Lamber navigational officer, and Parker and Brett were engineers.
It was more kid friendly without being quite so goofy as Batman and Robin. Then there was the casting; Jim Carrey was a big selling point in the 90s.
The novels honestly feel like a more complete story even though the fifth one is just kind of tacked on since Damien Thorn II is stabbed with all seven daggers in book 4 and it felt like enough of an ending.
