Same here. I'll rewatch all the specials. From TG to GT. And I also started The Grand Tour all over again. In episode 1.1 our Trio is just arriving at the "Burning Van"....so I just can act like the end of GT never happened.
You are right...it wasn't on the same high level for a while as it used to be. But still pretty much better than anything else I watch. I actually did enjoy the cars. But that wasn't the main reason to watch. Like you, it was just about these blokes having a good time. That's why I hope for some kind of meet-ups sometimes. Some shorts...anything. They cook sit in a Pub, just having a bit of conversation. I'd watch it.
And spare me a reboot (I know you're being sarcastic, but actually who knows nowadays what they will come up with) - since it worked so well with rebooting Top Gear on the BBC. Ended before the Grand Tour even. That's something :)
Acting-wise it was well done. Hollander, Watts, Lane, Williams, Sevigny, Flockhart, Moore and Ringwald. All did a really good job .
I stopped watching after 5 episodes though. There was just not really much happening. Like some others stated: No characters anyone cares about. Maybe only Joe Mantello as Jack Dunphy.
With only 4-5 episodes it could have been better. Better than dragging it out. And some of the Swans I cannot even tell apart. Probably that's the point - all act and look the same. And fix their faces at the same plastic surgeon. It's their world - but not mine, that's why it was hard to care about any of them - including Truman.
The first season had a better pace, a better feud. There are a lot and a lot more interesting feuds from the world of celebrities. There are some good examples made by other posters in some other threads.
If there is a third season with an interesting feud, I'll give it another go. But I won't finish this season. I do not feel like I'm missing something.
Had my post in the open tab since yesterday without posting it until today. Didn't even see until now, that this casting-decision already came up. So it seems I'm not alone with the issue of this miscasting.
I thought Andrew Scott was brillant and not just in this series. Added a lot more to the character than Matt Damon did in his Ripley movie (which I still enjoyed though). What I've read is that Scotts Ripley is closer to the books than others before him.
That said, I wasn't really into the casting of Eliot Summer as Freddie. They surely got talent - in music as well (Stings daughter) - but they just didn't do it as the character Freddie for me. Maybe I'm biased because I enjoyed the Freddie played by Philipp Seymour Hoffman so much.

For sure after the whistling belly-button trick at the high school talent show he got all the girls and all the action. A legend was born.
Watched it. Was good fun. Hoping for a 2nd season. The "Columbo" credits font were obvious to me right away. Came to watch Columbo through my Dad who loved it. That's now about 35 years ago since my first watch. And I still watch regularly with my wife to this day. Big fan.
Both shows share great supporting actors and guest starts. Beat up old car (even though in top shape the Barracuda would be a dream car), similar acting routine (play dumb while being smart) and she even got the ""just one more thing" routine going in an episode if I remember right. Both quirky characters.
She's no Columbo. Nobody ever will (please spare me a reboot). But it's a good show in style of Columbo. I enjoyed it.
Watched it cinema and had a fairly good time. Brainless fun - but nothing compared to the first movie. Jason Patric was just not really the best choice and did have little chemistry with Sandra.
The cruise setting on the other hand was nice. And definitely the best part of the movie were "UB40". The whole soundtrack was pretty great, but "Tell Me Is It True" was the biggest track there.
