I think Carpenter explained why they never called the thing an "alien", even though it clearly is one. What he said was these are all blue-collar working-class men who would have a hard time accepting silly science-fictiony elements like aliens to exist. These are guys who aren't easily amused by fairy tales and scary stories, and thus wouldn't immediately admit their belief in aliens. Instead, it's just "some thing" to them. Einstein is still alive, and he uses Moviechat. I remember this too. The guy says "we were out looking for a fallen meteor...and then we found something big" And then something massive bursts out of the ice! The marketing team knew exactly what they were doing. There was speculation that it was going to be related to The Thing, at least among school cafeterias like mine. Then it came out and all this buildup was about some Soviet conspiracy or whatever. Oh well. Footage from the movie would later go onto to be used in fanmade "The Thing 2" trailers, which was always nice. He seems like the type that would say "I'm not racist, I love Sam Jackson and Ice Cube! I would totally butt bang Jennifer Lopez! See, I'm not racist! YOU'RE the racist!" Yeah, but why? You're assuming most Hispanics can't afford newer cars? You really can't be calling someone unemployed and unmarried for spending time on this website when we're all here. You, me, him, and everyone else... Conservatives: We're not feelings-based. We only believe in facts and logic, things that can be backed up with proof. Also conservatives: God is real, despite the fact that there is zero scientific evidence that supports this claim, but we FEEL that he's real, so he must be. Seriously though, as someone who doth not dabble in politics too often, only like 5% of liberals actually believe in the "more than two genders" crap, whereas the overwhelming majority of conservatives believe in some sort of Christianity. Go out and ask a leftist if they think there are more than two genders, and most will laugh, despite what Fox and Ben Shapiro might tell you. What's that? The right winged media lies and manipulates too? Wow. Hypocrisy is played by both teams. The thing I don't get about climate change deniers is; okay, let's say global warming is, in fact, NOT real, and it's all completely natural and would happen the same way with or without our involvement. The world is expected to be near uninhabitable by 2150, but it's natural. So, we just sit around and wait to die? Just because it's natural, that means we shouldn't do anything to try and prevent this from happening? When we're having 90 degree F winters and the equatorial region is practically uninhabitable due to extreme heat, we should just shrug and let it happen? We shouldn't try to better the environment or make things right for the next generations? If we discovered an asteroid the size of Oklahoma was hurling towards earth but wouldn't collide for 72 years, with several decades to prepare and plan our survival, would we just sit around and go "oh well, it's a natural occurrence, we can't do nothin about it but wait 72 years until it hits us!" Whether global warming is real or not, it blows my mind that deniers want to watch the world incinerate because it's a "natural event" and not do anything to stop or slow it down. Quite pathetic that all this arrogance comes from a fact a liberal coined the term 'global warming', and them southern red boys dont wanna agree with no libtard. Anyone who hates a movie for one dumb moment and nothing more. For example: Peter Parker goes emo and dances like a goofball in Spider-Man 3? Worst movie ever!!! A dinosaur talks (says one single word) in a brief dream sequence in Jurassic Park 3? 1/10!!! Wolverine kicks someone in the nuts in X-Men 3? The holocaust of motion pictures!!! They drive a car through a falling building in 2012? The director and his entire immediate family should be drawn and quartered!!! They drive a truck through a fireball explosion and come out completely unscathed in Twister? An abomination of cinema!!! But it was totally fine when it happened in Terminator 2 and True Lies. I guess logical fallacies are okay when James Cameron does it? The great thing is that none of these movies are any good and have plenty of moments to pick apart and ridicule, but most people only focus on one single stupid moment as their base criticism. Like, if you took that one brief moment out, would they like the movie? I wasn't bothered by it until he called the Academy "racist" because Chi-Raq and Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus didn't get Oscar noms. Nevermind the fact that those movies just simply may not be very good, it MUST be because the Academy is racist... I never understood why his performance in this movie was ridiculed and seen as the one sore spot. His performance isn't perfect, but at it's absolute worst is just "kinda flat". He's great in this movie and comes off as a genuinely creepy psychopath. I think most people feel this way. It's a shame most dislike this film because of its second half. The first half pretty much checks all the boxes on the "how to make a great horror film" list. The visual style of the film is easily the best part of it. The rest of the film is garbage but the cinematography is fantastic, as it was in the first film. The shot of the camera zooming into Ray Wise's eyes as it slowly fades into the next scene brilliantly captures exactly what his character is thinking. I mean, we can't say it flopped when it only played in like 6 theaters. Not really fair. I still can't find where to watch it and it's supposedly been out for months. Hopefully, he'll do just fine. He's got a lot of talent and creativity, just judging from It Follows and some of his earlier no-budget work. That's how all of the MCU films are; they're the most hyped thing in existence until the next movie comes, and then nobody ever mentions it again. People were foaming at the mouths waiting for Captain America: Civil War, but I haven't heard a single soul mention that film since its theatrical release. This is so accurate it's almost mindbending. lol people got really mad about this OOh fun. The Deer Hunter Taxi Driver (havent seen A Fish Called Wanda) Psycho Jaws Holy Grail Goodfellas Se7en Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Chinatown Back To The Future Apocalypse Now The Silence Of The Lambs Casablanca Blade Runner The Matrix The Big Lebowski Amadeus The Godfather: Part II Gone With The Wind Vertigo Pulp Fiction 12 Angry Men American Beauty There Will Be Blood Alien The Good, The Bad, The Ugly Seven Samurai The Usual Suspects Raging Bull Schindler's List The Godfather
A more severe gripe of mine is the age of the lead female protagonist. She was supposed to have been born in 1973 but she looks no older than 25 in 2013! What the fuck...
The filmmakers addressed this by saying the movie was supposed to take place in 1995 and not the modern day. Still, this makes very little sense, as vehicles way newer than 1995 can be seen all over the film, characters use smartphones to call for help, 2000's music plays on the radio, and more. I've also read that the creators wanted to cast someone younger for wider appeal and creative reasons, and "thought nobody would notice". My guess is the 1995 explanation is completely bogus and was never even thought of during production. It's hilarious that they'd assume nobody would notice basic mathematics. Even a young child could tell you a person born in 1973 wouldn't be 22 in 2013. I've actually never heard of anybody liking Jupiter Ascending lol
