I think he did care and love her but not romantically/sexually in love with her. And given their circumstances tbh, I don't blame him having a gf. He's not a monk or a priest. I don't think it's as dark as Excalibur actually, I wrote a review of it on another thread if you want to check. I love O Fortuna btw! I plan on rewatching this new film again. :) Yes. Like you mentioned every other Arthurian film is either a disappointment or doesn't hold a candle to Excalibur. This one though is very good, great even, & has the same excitement & epic grandness of Excalibur. The acting of the main villain - Jude Law - was delicious. Also Mists of Avalon was actually another good Arthurian miniseries. You should give it a go. PS. I don't understand if you're fascinated by a genre of storytelling, why do you want it limited? Look at all the superhero films? I love the gangster/crime genre & I want more, good ones for sure, but I certainly won't hinder people making more of it. & so many posters here trashing it before its release, sigh. It is a pity though that this was to be the first installment of a 6 series film, one I would love to have but I don't think we will ever get that, & like Unbreakable upon it's release & planned trilogy, it is heartbreaking. If anyone wants to have a taste of a good, a great Arthurian film, I highly recommend this new film & Excalibur, Mists of Avalon is also a very good miniseries which focuses more on Morgana (Arthur's sister) and where Arthur is but some side character. Again there are 2 fantasy Arthur films now actually. There's also Mists of Avalon which is pretty good but focuses more on Morgana. I thought Jude Law was the best here actually! I loved him as a villain and if you thought he was hammy you'd probably hate Excalibur then. We have 2 now: -Excalibur -King Arthur 2017 This was planned as a 6 film series which may never happen unfortunately. :( I'm not ashamed to say I found this film mind blowing. Bit I don't get the hatred as well, especially apparently from the critics. Painful to see such an underrated classic treated so poorly. Reminds me of: -The Thing (1980) -Apocalypto -Excalibur -The 13th Warrior -Unbreakable -The Empire of the Sun -Dark City -Stardust -Peter Pan Lol, you should watch the 2004 version, you'll probably love it. I didn't like it though, the opposite of the magic of Excalibur, very bland Imo. I agree the trailer didn't really recommend the film and unfortunately it seems to be bombing bit it is a great film! Is Excalibur your favorite Arthurian film? I also loved the Rocky-esque montages! I love Excalibur! It's my favorite Arthurian film and this is now one too! You know why? I love fantasy/mythical/legendary type films and King Arthur is one ripe for it. And for all the Arthurian films we've seen only Boorman's film captures that ethereal epic, grand, mythical, and legendary quality. Every other Arthur type film tries too hard to be grounded in some sort realism which makes the 2004 film the worst of them all. King Arthur (2017) is different in how it's directed and presented, it's very much a modern styled film but it shares similarities with Excalibur that no other Arthurian film does, it is epic, it is grand, it is legendary, and it is mythical. And yes I love it! How can you compare this to Logan? They're very different film genres. You should compare it to other Arthurian films or sword/sandals films: -Camelot -Excalibur (my favorite) -First Knight -King Arthur (2004) -Mists of Avalon (pretty good actually) -Tristan & Isolde -King Arthur (2017) (new favorite) This will go down as an underrated classic like Boorman's Excalibur, Gibson's Apocalypto, and Mctiernan's The 13th Warrior Imo. I love it and just learned critics hate it apparently while a lot of viewers love it. I don't get it. I feel bad as I don't think we will get the next installment unfortunately. :( Troll. I also liked The Man from Uncle actually but I love this! I'll be honest, I'm not much into his Sherlock Holmes, prefer the tv series but I absolutely love this film! You overestimate Di Caprio. I'm thinking it may be the trailer as well. I just saw the film and I absolutely love it! Excalibur is my favorite Arthurian film and nothing comes close to it until this film. And I've seen the ff: -Camelot -First Knight -King Arthur (2004) -Mists of Avalon -Tristan & Isolde And I initially didn't plan on seeing this film though I like Hunnam well enough but because the other Arthurian films just don't hold a candle to the grandness, epicness, legendary and mythical nature of Excalibur. But I've heard great word of mouth reviews so decided to see it and boy it has all those qualities that I loved in Excalibur but different. The trailer really didn't do the film any justice, it made it look like a generic film but it was the same for The 13th Warrior which I also love bit had an even worse trailer Imo. I just read that this is the first installment of a planned 6 series film which I would love to have but now fear we may never get. Joel Kinnaman who plays the son is a Swedish actor who came out in the American version of The Killing actually. It's very good actually, I highly recommend it.
