As an NFL football fan and a sports fan in general, I knew he was an NFL running back, but he played before my time. So, I knew him mostly from his famous Hertz rent a car commercial.

Who's to say that higher is better?
For example, in radio communications, a standing wave ratio (SWR) of 1 is ideal. Anything higher than that is getting worse. If you have an SWR of 5, it's terrible.
So a "good" ratio is closer to 1 and a "bad" ratio is higher.
In your example, 0.75 is a good ratio and 4 is a bad ratio.

The explanation given was that the humans had already won. Killing John at that point would be pointless. Therefore they had to wipe out his existence, meaning at some point in the past. Not that he had to never be born, but that he could never lead the humans.
