Did it need to go anywhere though? I would have been happy with a few more seasons of episodic episodes - and then the film to wrap it up. Firefly 😀 I was watching this again and noticed that the director, Shona Auerbach, has done another film finally!. I shall have to keep my eyes open for it. Three years later - watched 'em both again just because that's the mood I'm in. Quite useful having big stacks of DVDs to rootle through when looking for a particular type of film to watch. They are virtually the same film, shot from the same script, but you can still watch and enjoy both in the same evening. A few weeks ago I accepted something as real that was actually a spoof. It's getting quite hard to tell these days. It's a bit sad I can only remember seeing her in The Birds and Marnie - both of which I really like her in. It's a pity no other directors gave her a chance. I like it - so far. The pilot was nothing special but I think the following episodes get better. At one level it's just another procedural, odd couple, episodic cop show (in French) - so it strongly depends on the two leads and they work for me. I can't tell if people are taking this as an actual thing or just joining in the joke. But just in case anyone does think it's real the appearance of a recognisable actor, Tom Lincoln, is a bit of a giveaway and nyctc7's link to the Channel 4 Comedy YouTube channel underlines it. Yeah, thats the familiar format. Maybe they are still rolling out the change and only some parts are affected at the moment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wales Common expression in the UK. A police tactic for handling protesters. Good idea - and I found Guy Ritchie's explanation: https://www.cinema.com/articles/3624/revolver-guy-ritchie-q-.phtml I suppose I have to believe him but I won't be watching it again just to see if it really does help explain. 5/10 - because ultimately it's very unsatisfying. Perhaps paradoxically I think there are some good performances and strong moments but I guess I just don't get it - then again nobody else seems to either so at least I'm not alone. Yes, but the research centre location is recognisably in North Wales - which is quite a long way by road from Cardiff. I know this is just nit-picking really but to me it's a glaringly obvious mistake. little-doh! I misunderstood - but the books sound like they are worth a read. She was the maid/companion in the series - is it different in the books? Either way very very pretty. Yep, can't argue with you, it's a lazy film with more than a nod to Rio Bravo - yet it's quietly enjoyable. I guess the cast carries it off. I've seen several of her films and though, to be honest, I only remember Beat The Devil I've always thought of her as a Star. The BBC has an interesting obituary: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-64292026 I'd be interested to see her films with:-
...her favourite actor: Rock Hudson. They appeared together in romantic comedies Come September and Strange Bedfellows. After a lifetime fending off Hughes and most of Hollywood's finest, Hudson's failure to make a pass came as a shock. "I knew right away that Rock Hudson was gay, when he did not fall in love with me," she told one reporter.
RIP Not sure you can judge because I suspect the remits are different. These days I think they want a big theme that can get inside the audience's head and become part of the package. In the past the music was less intrusive, more supportive background. It's interesting to wonder when the change came to this very broad brush answer. Names that pop up in my mind are Ennio Morricone, John Barry and Ron Goodwin. But there is also influence from Westerns and even earlier we have Korngold, who I always think of as the bloke who wrote 'The Errol Flynn' theme. Always been my favourite. 1.
