An incredibly hard movie for me to rate.

After I watch any movie, I always like to come to IMDB and rate it while it's fresh in my mind so I have a record of all the movies I've watched and what I thought of them.

Generally speaking, this is pretty easy. Watch movie, rate movie, done. I always have a pretty good idea of how I felt about a movie right away.

This movie is different. Part of me wants to give it a 4 or 5 because it's just thoroughly confusing, I generally don't like narration (even in thoughts), and I thought the story was convoluted. But I've always said that my goal when watching a movie is to be entertained. And although I sit here now mildly irritated at the movie overall, I WAS entertained throughout watching it just trying to figure out what the heck the point of everything was. I'm still trying ti figure out what the heck the point of everything was.

What to do? Hmm...

Well, take it for what it is, a drug addicted schizo gangsta pseudo autobiography trying to bring his wisdom out kind of a bit too repetitively, paying homages to tarantino & fight club without really achieving it, if i was as anal as yu i'd giv it a 6 since it truly contains some message, amazing scenes & ... soul's bits.

(no offense intended)

That all depends on which version you watched. The real UK 2005 version or the crappy redone cos were spineless and wanted to help the dumb mericans understand something that doesnt explode every two seconds 2007 version

Fully agree with your hesitation on how to rate this, Portlis - along with actually being entertained while at the same time confused with the plot.

My ratings are always based on own entertained I was, as that's the key requirement for a film that takes two hours of your time. Of course, I'll make some minor adjustments up or down for concept, originality, acting, directing, etc. But the base is still the simple question - did i enjoy seeing this? Enough to see it again?

I'm not sure if you're aware, but you can extract your whole history of ratings, along with how IMDb users rated those films. You can run some statistics on it, if that's your thing - to see how your own rating of movies compares with everyone else's, which movies had the biggest gap higher and lower, etc.

5/10 - because ultimately it's very unsatisfying. Perhaps paradoxically I think there are some good performances and strong moments but I guess I just don't get it - then again nobody else seems to either so at least I'm not alone.

WHEN THIS CAME OUT I WATCHED IT...SCRATCHED MY HEAD AND THOUGHT...WHAT THE FUCK?...A FEW HOURS OF INTERNET RESEARCH LATER I UNDERSTOOD THE FILM AND LOVED IT...I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT I READ OR WHAT I KNEW/THOUGHT I KNEW...BUT I HAVE NO DESIRE TO REWATCH THE MOVIE.

Good idea - and I found Guy Ritchie's explanation: https://www.cinema.com/articles/3624/revolver-guy-ritchie-q-.phtml
I suppose I have to believe him but I won't be watching it again just to see if it really does help explain.
