Completely unnecessary, as there were plenty of princes in France and Europe who were not rulers. As a matter of fact, in France the king was the ruler of the country.
The prince was NOT 11 when he was cursed in the animated movie. The painting and the stained glass windows clearly show him as an older teenager. And all Lumiere really sings is that their skills as servants have been rusting for 10 years.

I agree, the Japanese themselves "localize" Western stories all the time. Keeping everything Japanese except the actors is just silly. It seems Death Note did change the names, but even in that case I wonder what the problem is with watching a Japanese adaptation. I'd personally prefer it.

Absolutely ridiculous that there are black people in a mountain village in 18th century France. Even more ridiculous that there are actual interracial couples. The PC thing is getting out of hand.
