Without trying to sound like some sexist feminist, I think it's because the movie was written from a rather stereotypical, male-oriented perspective. To a boy his father is a role model, an idol and a (war) hero. Luke's goal is to become like his father and physically fight "evil". Traditionally, a mother doesn't really fit in such a narrative. So basically, I think Lucas just didn't care about the mother.

Han shooting first happens so quickly, you can still pretend he didn't. What bothers me is the Jabba the Hutt scene, especially when Han steps over his tail.
I also despise all the modern CGI that was added, it just doesn't fit the movie.
When I first saw this movie I was a teenager who knew nothing about the story or even that much about Tennessee Williams. Even if they cut out all the gay references, to me the gay subtext was really obvious, especially all the talk about Skipper.
As for the numbers, even in "liberal" countries like the UK and The Netherlands the gay population is about 4%, so 10% seems to be an exaggeration. But that's really beside the point. The play was written by a gay man about a closeted gay man, so it's not strange if some gayness can be detected in the movie.

I' m going "all out" for this show? I posted two sentences, not even directed at you, about why I think it was canceled. You're the one who couldn't handle that and replied to me calling me names.
