Yep, absolutely one of the most overrated movies I have seen last years. Read some raving reviews of it before watching, but gave up about halfway through - bored to death. Half of the screentime at that point had been variations of the same pointless scene from the bus they were driving in.
Guess it is supposed to paint a picture of the sad state of things many places in the midwest, but fails miserably in doing that to some meaningful degree for my part (in the half I watched at least).
Yeah it has 9,7 at IMDB atm. The next three ones have 8,8 - 8,3 and the last 8,4.
This compares well with my experience of it. Only I would rate episode 6 higher as it was also quite awesome. The last two with a clear dip tho.
Molecule Proto-Post sounds interesting :)
Great news!
A bit more action than the last in this one but still felt a bit like a transport episode. Happy that they are off from Tycho station at least. The intrigues between Fred and the belters was getting stale. The sudden "you are not my friends and not welcome back" from Fred (btw, where did that come from? He saved his life a moment ago!) indicates that they are not going back there anytime soon.
Not a fan of Drummer at all. Mainly because the actress playing her is bad and doesn't create a believable character to me. The acting when she was alone with Naomi was absolutely horrible. Liked the quick executions tho :)
Really felt like something is missing without Jane and anything from Earth or the martians. Hopefully things will pick up pace again in the next episode.
Great work again Jim! It seems though that old history of notifications is gone. Hope it works on new posts from now on at least, because it's a great feature. Also, as some others mentioned, it could be good with an alternative to nested threads. I have noticed that in a couple of threads with many replies to one post it ends up with just a few letters on each line all the way on the right side of the screen. I prefer nested replies like we have now, but in those threads it would have been nice to have the option to switch to flat as it is almost unreadable.
But overall VERY happy with the design and functionality of this site so far and pleased that it seems to be growing so well.
It seems to me it is probably two major type of posters. Those who see certain boards more as a social club, where you become friendly and have talks with your friends every day - and the ones mostly into discussing and reading others opinions on the subject (TV-series, Film, Actor) when it's recently watched or in the air for some reason.
Of course, all do both here, but for the first group it's not enough with some few posts on a certain board every day when they are used to it buzzing with activity. The second group is happy enough at times just having old threads to read and new ones appearing (even at a slow-ish rate) in new stuff. As long as someone responds, even after days, they are happy. So far this forum seems to have attracted to a greater degree the latter group. Hop over to IMDBv2.0 and it seems to me there is more of the social club feel - also logical that they don't mind so much that all the discussions from IMDB are gone if it is like that.
But there is a big community forming here anyway, and I think it is just a matter of time till all the most popular boards have the same kind of social feel as many on IMDB had. In the beginning (first days after IMDB shut down) things were MUCH slower on the individual boards around. Now it's practically buzzing with activity in comparison - and getting busier for each day.
Yep, that is my impression too. It's so active now that I post much less than I did in the first weeks, since I mostly post when I have something to say that I don't see anybody else have covered fully. Have to get a grip not going back to full "lurker"-mode again lol.
Very interesting question that. Jim with his experience with law for sure knows. I'm european myself, and I have seen people from places like India and Australia post, so I kinda saw it as a international site - even if the majority probably are from the US.
Anyway the ones clearly trolling and discouraging people from discussing doesn't deserve a place here, whichever country's amendment we follow. But we will have a team of moderators in place soon, so I'm not too worried.
I saw the bugs on the strawberries as a symbol that the "dream" or astral plane fantasy or whatever was tainted somehow. Most likely that this was not the real David-persona having sex with Syd.
A bit slow and uneventful episode, considering the cliffhangers from the last two ones. Would have loved to see something more from Venus/Eros/Miller or what really happened in the "alien attack", but I guess that after two smashing good action-filled episodes it's ok with one filler here.
Yeah, there is definitely something up with Fred's second in command. Been going on for a couple of episodes now, and I'm quite sure she will steal command of the nukes somehow and do something stupid.
Yeah sure. Because in all wars everybody does everything exactly how it should be done and nothing happens that should not happen..
Hurray! Good that you deal with the troll infestation, even if it seems like some of the worst have disappeared (or maybe you DID do something about those early trolls? Hmm).
"Jump to latest reply"-button is also a nice addition for those loong threads. Great work again Jim!
What a wise and positive post R_Kane! Wish you happiness too, and you are so right in that we should be happy with what we got already! I'm already very pleased with this place. Even if we may not have the numbers IMBD had, it compensates and surpasses IMDB with relatively more quality discussions and a cleaner nicer layout. The trending part is also great for discovering new shows and movies and see which boards have activity.
I didn't think it started out so slow, but I can understand that it could be for some. But believe me, it picks up pace like crazy. By almost mid second season now it's turned into maybe my favourite sci-fi of all time!
Liked her in Game of Thrones, where she did a decent job. But the role there fitted her much better, and the chemistry with Richard Madden (Robb Stark) was good.
This episode was quite straightforward in what was real and not I felt. The only unclear parts where Syd seeing the angry boy in the woods. What were they doing making a fire in the woods anyway? We see them in a city, then out in the woods, then in the city again, then back in the woods. Very strange, and one that could point to this all being inside Davids head. But at this point, with how they have delivered the story so far, it would be a deal-breaker for me. Agree with Popcorn. All fine with a good twist, but everything an illusion is just bad.
"I rewatched the episode and started thinking of all the duplicity happening. Not even metaphorically or story-wise, but with Cary/Kerry, Benny/Lenny, Lenny/DYE. That's a lot of halves to make a whole, ya know?"
I felt the part with Cary/Kerry could very well be a foreshadowing of Syd being a creation of David. Then again we have Syd narrating the story, clearly separate of David, so I guess this is just all wishful thinking..
Hehe, when you put it like that it does sound like a seriously mindblowing experience :)
"I think this was very much a make or break sort of episode. In that, this was so weird and out there, more than it has been, and I can see it being a sort of polarizing chapter."
Indeed.. Very disappointing episode for me. Trippy as hell, like the first two, but so lacking in style in comparison. That Syd-narration was just horrible! With that (and some of the other scenes) they suddenly started spoon-feeding us the answers to so many of the interesting questions that was so creatively and carefully crafted during the first episodes.
The astral plane was way to cartoonish too, even if it the guy he met there and their interactions were a bit cool.
Had this feeling watching that some Michael Bay wannabe had taken over the whole project after the first three episodes. Will continue watching, but a big letdown!
