>>The character had come out to center stage and belted out the number<< Which is exactly what Audra MacDonald did in the live TV version from a few years ago. And it was obnoxious - she practically screamed, "Everyone look at me, with my big showy number!" Obnoxious. A retelling of the show from the Oleson's point of view would be worth watching - kind of like how Wicked tells the Wizard of Oz story from the witch's point of view. There's a great outtake from the show where Rev. Alden says to Doc Baker, "I thought you'd killed another one." LOL - the TARA. So true Did anyone mention the cliche of someone leaving town and getting replaced by a blander, less interesting clone (Edwards/Garvey, Nellie/Nancy, Cassandra/Jenny, Charles/John Carter, Caroline/Sara Carter, Beadle/Plum etc.). And they were big on biblical retribution: fire, flood (well, bad weather anyway), wild beasts, pestilence, etc. Yes, he had an affair with Alice Garvey. When she threatened to tell, he burned down the blind school with her in it, and managed to blame it on Albert. That's a little harsh. But he was kind of an uggo. He left to go hang out with Anna and Olga The Gimp. Doc Baker is the one I'd most want to be friends with. He's wise, practical, and low-drama. Rev Alden annoys me a bit because he's a little sanctimonious, and I couldn't forgive his wussiness during the Bully Boys episode. The actress who played Mrs. Oleson is the best one on the show. Even when she's in the background, watch the expressions on her face. She's a brilliant performer. One of the other boards was calling "May We Make Them Proud" "Make We Bake Them Brown". Haha. Thanks. Boy, do I miss that place. Maybe that's an indication that I spent too much time there ;) Then the Little House would have even been more full...of love! [gag] Toy Story 3. It does seem a little silly, but remember: this is the most PC show on television. So they're not exactly trafficking in reality to begin with. I hate the way he talks - there's something about his accent that just bugs me. Like he's this short guy trying to be macho. He planned to. But his boss Mr. Sanders showed up at the bar and insulted Archie, so Archie's pride took over and he quit. Back to School. It was the point at which Harriet and Nellie really became comic relief, and the point when Alison Arngrim really started nailing her role (she was always good, but she mastered it here). You had all kinds of iconic moments: Laura and Zaldamo meeting; the introduction of Eliza Jane, Charles getting hit by the millstone, Caroline working at Nellies, cinnamon chicken, the mud fight, Charles slugging Zaldamo. I think I like Doc Baker the best on the show. He's smart and calm and generally doesn't get hysterical unlike the rest of the cast. There was his little foray into racism in the Dr. LeDoux episodes, but he got over that quickly. They actually closed the message boards down already!
