I have just had my second viewing, and I think it's bordering on a Great movie now. I really enjoyed it and I think the various themes of the.movie (the power of Human Touch, realising your inner hero, pushing against the 'system', etc) really come through.
The humour is generally.nicely done, and the cinematography and music are generally Great.
Best time I have had in a cinema since 3 Billboards.
Kermode cheered when it was announced as the UK number one movie on his show about twenty minutes ago, and restated how.much he likes the movie.
(And he has generally slagged off Shymalans movies in the past)
On your general points, yeah I can see some of that. I have actually seen a YouTube reviewer saying they enjoyed Split, but had not seen Unbreakable... I couldn't believe that, but they seemed to be honest. They didn't like Glass, quel surprise.
I think a lot of early reviewers were also caught out by the movie, as it certainly was not what many folk were expecting. Personally I am glad that I had read many of the spoilers before seeing it as I think it wouldn't have made much sense on my first viewing otherwise. The fact that so.many early reviews flet the ending was SO bad backs this up for me, they couldn't believe how it would make sense to have the three main characters killed off like that, but to me it makes sense
Thanks. It just occurred to me.
Will Smith hasn't peaked yet. He may yet Do a great Richard the Third.
If he urinated into a Glass bottle it could have been so symbolic.
:)
Good Point.
I agree that Reily really was stunningly like Ollver Hardy. It really was incredibly uncanny, and it was a great oerformance. I hope he gets a nomination for it too.
Sad to say I don't think Coogan was even close to being like Stanley, apart from.when he was going 'Full Stanley" in their sketches... I thought he was okay, and maybe Stan was like that in real life, but to me 90% I felt like I was watching Steve Coogan and Oliver Hardy, it was really jarring to me.
It was a very enjoyable.movie though, not.many big laughs (intact the biggest for me came from the two wives who were very amusing), but it.was a sweet story and have a very nice ending.
Haha, yeah I thought I would be too.
Actually he had a very friendly grin on his face, under the shades, as he high fived us.
He was really funny in the Q&A. I was impressed with his live appearance, very pleased I went.
I totally agree, and as I have posted elsewhere I have pretty much given up now.
You last point, even if you compare what happened in Season 1 (which was eventful and lively, and funny) with what has happened since in seasons 2-4.5, the show has moved at a snails pace since, especially Sauls Story.
Very little on the news in the UK, was about the fifth story from the top and just a few minutes showing a few clips of his movies.
Personally I think the only movies I have seen of his are Deliverance and Boogie Nights (both excellent), but am aware he was a huge star in the 70s
I.loved it, first trailer to get me 'excited' for a movie in a long time
Maybe it was Morgan Freeman
My fave parts of BB are seasons 1 and 2, and then the final season.
It has a great opening and a great last five episodes or so, and for me it is the initial transition of Walt from nice Guy to the Guy who had pretty much tipped over to a bad guy by the end of season 2 that I loved the most.
After that it did become almost a typical (but excellent) crime show for seasons 3-5a
I just dipped into the start of Season 4 the other day and watched 3 episodes (E2-E4)... which I had not watched in a long time, and it was great really (that scene where Walt jokes to Hank 'Ya Got Me'... amazing). So it still really works for me 3-5a, but 1-2 where the best for me, and then the last five eps.
Have been seeing Great reviews and I enjoyed 'Kevin' so was looking forward to this, especially as Taxi Driver is one of my greatest movies.
But this was SUCH a disappointment, just a lot of dark lighting, Phoenix hobbling around and the occasional dialogue being mainly a mumbled mess.
To be honest I kind of gave up on it with half an hour to go (sort of half watched it till the end) and I pretty much have little idea of what had happened at the end.
I really am starting to believe that many movie critics are useless now, if they think this is good.
The only good bit for me was a bit of the music by Johnny Greenwood, especially when it started, but that was it.
I would have sucked the dynamite out, no problem.
I think the devil.meant to get inside Gaye Byrne the jovial Irish interviewer from The Late Late Show
The Shawshank Mutual Masterbation.
Its Series 4 actually...
Agree that waa a great episode, as where the first two in series 4. Very clever and varied, the second havllf of the series dipped a lot though.
Brooks when he says he could shoot the store manager to get put back in prison. Always makes me smile and set me off crying as i know what happens next. It was like the final bit of his warmth humour and humaness before the end.
Andy WAS a gay. If not then the posters would have had sperm all over them.
