Unrealistic scene

I think the scene where the soldiers arrived from the future had one flaw; we all know every major TV station would cut to commercials in an event like that.

If I was in charge of the TV station that would be the absolute last thing i'd do

reply

Well then let's hope you're in charge next year when they show up.

reply

Nah - TV channels would definitely cut the feed - but some live stream services would keep going.

A giant portal opened up at mid-field and a bunch of people from the future just stepped out(an insane event in human history), and you would cut to commercial? Better hope those unemployment benefits are generous, because you'd never get another job in broadcasting again.

Imagine if when 9/11 happened, which had non-stop coverage, some asshole at CBS flipped over to a Blockbuster video commercial as the second plane was about to hit!

That was pretty much my thinking.

I think the OP is still scarred from when Janet Jackson had that wardrobe malfunction during a sporting event.

reply

Hey, I'm not afraid of.. um.. wardrobe malfunctions..

reply

Well, at that point, nobody knew they were from the future, time travel didn't exist yet. All they saw was soldiers pointing MPs at soccer players.

TV stations aren't exactly open to showing blood, gore, and death on live TV. How many times did they cut away when some naked fan/activist ran onto the field, or players started fighting each other? In case it might get ugly and bloody, I'm sure their protocol would suggest cutting the live stream. I'm not sure someone would get fired for that.

reply

No way. And miss out on all that futuristic drama. I don't even think so.
