apparently the chinese hate all that pandering stuff so maybe if it gets released there they wont buy into it. i mean they do those chinese type movies themselves they dont need hollywood to do it for them. they like other stuff like F&F and Avengers/Iron Man and Transformers, hell they even dug Terminator Genisys! (NOT Star Wars tho)
shareUnlike the West, Asians don't like Star Wars too much. For them Star Wars is nothing special and just another space aliens movie.
I think they don't care about CGI. If you see Asian movies, lots of them have sub-par CGI quality (in Hollywood standard) but they just don't care, they suck them up equally. I guess it's good enough for the majority.
Star Wars most breakthrough success was how advanced their SFX in the 70s. And it held up super well to the 90s even.
Asians don't seem to be too impressed though. They like Star Wars, but not as much as the West. Fast & Furious and MCU style of SFX and CGI are more of their taste. No need for fancy stuffs, just simple explosions, fisticuffs, gunfights and car chases are enough.
However, character design is I think the most important there. Star Wars characters are mostly regular human types, Luke, Han, Rey, etc. usually with bland color and costumes. While MCU gives more varied and colorful designs like Captain America, Hulk or Iron Man. Red, gold, blue, green, etc. It seemed they respond to those elements better.
That's why I believe Disney made a bad choice designing Shang-Chi like this. His costume is bland if not generic. The actor is not handsome by Asian standard, or at least not quirky-looking enough. The design and coloring are all pretty lame and basically forgettable.
A random kid can draw Captain America's costume from memory after they watch the movie once. I bet nobody can draw this Shang-Chi costume except to color everything dark red and call it a day.
There was Mandarín throughout the movie, which felt like pandering.
But it was pro Chinese culture, not CPP. Because of that it wasn't too bad.
Bullshit - CPP is basically vomiting films where China saves the world right and left - so this film is right up its alley.
This is basically the type of film that you'd expect CPP to create -
Hollywood is a bitch spreading its legs wider than ever before
The problem is, somebody on the cast said something about Taiwain - and unlike J Cena, they didn't stand on their knees and issue an apology afterwords, hence the ban - lol
This serves hollywood right -
Hopefully NBA is next, because you know it's whoring itself to China as well.
The whole of the US has been Asia's bitch for decades now while believing it was the other way around.
shareWhat on Earth is wrong with gunning for China money? Do you think Disney should ignore all that lovely Chinese money and pander to your tastes or something?
Disney is a for-profit exercise, and if there's money to be had in China why the hell shouldn't they try to coax some out of Chinese pockets. It's the Magic of the Free Market at work.
Never said anything was wrong, just pointing out it's their obvious strategy here.
I'm hoping they go full CCP to maximize profits.
Everyone in Hollywood is gunning for China's box office money. As for all the typical Chinese mythology, I think it was handled kinda beautifully and honored Chinese culture well.
shareI'm hoping they do a live action winnie the pooh remake based there!
shareDidn't China ban this film?
shareI thought so:

Wonder how it's doing in the balck market over there? LOL.
i hate modern china but you have to admit that chinese mythology is pretty badass.
