Will this movie be a hit?
With the recent underperformances of multiple superhero movies, do you see this one bucking the trend?

shareI imagine it'll be another flop unfortunately.
The Marvels and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom later in the year are the more interesting ones. Both of their predecessors made over $1 billion. We'll see how hard they drop off.

That is a really thorough data sample. And I read this one was going to be a streaming-only movie originally which then they decided to use as a theatrical release. Definitely a unique situation
shareProbably not, but it looks fun. Shazam isn't a hit, but it's also a movie I quite like, so idc as long as I enjoy it. Always time to become a cult classic anyway.
shareEven The Flash flop: Well known superhero Flash + Two Batman!
What make you think a unknown superhero wouldn't flop?
If it pretends it's not part of the DCEU, flies under the radar and does its own thing it might be a moderate success.
Looks OK, and I like Xolo from Cobra Kai. He has a bit of good will going for him at the moment. I hope it does well for him, and not destroy his career.
Didn't know what Blue Beetle was until I saw the trailer. To its detrement it's yet another superhero film, and I think people are getting tired of it now.
By the poster I was hoping for an 80s throwback, crazy sci-fi adventure movie. But it doesn't look too 80s apart from neon lights, and looks a little crazy, so maybe it will be good. Who knows.
Purely for the schadenfreude I hope this flops.
shareMost likely not.
shareMaybe if it had been released in another era. The problem is, the movie market is so saturated with superhero movies that this one will get lost in the shuffle like all the others. Plus, if you've seen one hero origin story, you've seen them all.
Let's see...
- ordinary person gets extraordinary powers by--
- experimental insect bit them/toxic waste was dumped on them or they fell into it/found lost alien technology/unwittingly became bonded with something alien/magic and can't get rid of them/was born with a mutation/magical powers they didn't know about/was given experimental technology from someone who was running from the bad guys/got injured and their body was modified in a radical way or they sought out a radical way to heal themselves/got injected with an experimental serum either against their will or they chose to do it/got exposed to crazy radiation out in space or in some secret experiment
- ordinary person has to learn how to live with their new abilities, explore them, and find out how to use them
- supervillain comes to town to cause trouble
- new hero has to take it upon themselves to learn how to fight and go after the villain
- after getting their ass kicked a few times, the hero eventually takes the villain down
- hero learns an important moral lesson along the way
- sometimes the hero gets a love interest in the midst of all that, and only after they get their powers do they have the confidence to try even talking to their crush
So it kinda gets old after 5 or 6 hero origin stories are shown on the big screen
