How Can This Have 8 Episodes?

Was this show some kind of "fake" to get us interested in Star Wars?

I remember the Terminator TV show came out a few months before one of the movies, then was cancelled right after.

This show has no plot and is done in two episodes? What?

It plays like a TV show that should have 24 episodes, not 8.

If there isn't something amazing coming up next on Disney, I'm canceling and will never sign up again.

I enjoy it, but I expected much, much more. I expected a darker story, on the level of Rogue One, but instead we got Ewok level show. I’d give it 5 out of 10.

I think a show about a Mandalorian bounty hunter should be a bit more adult oriented.

I work in psych with criminals and drug addicts. I like to come home and watch fun stuff. I greatly enjoy flash and shows like that because they are interesting with wholesome themes and not too much gore. I love Supernatural which has gore but a lot of humor and positive themes. So, I'm cool with this not being too dark, but would like a dark Star Wars show because the universe is kinda ghetto, lol.

But anyway, I just can't believe this has 8 episodes. You could probably write the current story in a few days, because there is no story.

It's Disney+s feature programs. It worked, the rating is 9.0 and the top streaming program.

Disney+ has shitloads of programming, far more than Apple TV and CBS all-access. Netflix is losing customers. Cable is for the brain dead.

If you can't find anything to watch, try broadcast TV for a month!

reply

I use Netflix and Amazon.

There's a huge amount of programming. Disney has almost nothing.

reply

If you think Disney has little content you should look at Apple. Nothing much there.

reply

See and The Morning Show xD

reply

Saw the first ep of See. What a jock of Scifi. Not interested in The Morning Show.

reply

Jason Momoa is the only good thing about that show, everything else just drags it down to mediocrity.
Especially the ridiculous plot...

reply

I kind of agree. It's not a great show.
But I like what it is trying to do. They are trying to give the fans - people who love Star Wars - what they really want. Not every Sci-Fi show can be BSG or The Expanse. Sometimes it's enough to see something simple, something you love.

Well I doubt what ANYONE wants is an 8-episode show that ends on a cliffhanger, as this one seems poised to do.

In semi-contrast, Amazon's "The Boys" ended on a cliffhanger, but also resolved a lot of plot lines in the process - I wouldn't mind seeing something like that.

Or better yet, a proper resolution - "Star Wars" isn't worth much of anything if its producers think they need cliffhangers to keep viewers watching.

reply

I watched The Boys and it had a lot of plot so it's wasn't just filler about bad superheroes.

This show is "good" in that it has a very minor plot, a good setting, and is something fans want. However, most episodes are very cheap looking. There is some Star Wars props but mostly they are in the woods, the sand, and it could be filmed in your back yard.

They had to know it would be fairly popular and decided to have no real story and only a tiny amount of episodes? As I've said, I think this is a fake show designed to come out before the movie and get interest going.

I will be shocked if the show continues much longer.

Also, I will cancel my subscription unless there is something new coming immediately. There is no content on Disney except the Jeff Goldbloom show and sorry Jeff, I can live without you.

Good point, as much as I'm enjoying this show, it does have a "slapped together" feel to it

Thanks for pointing that out, actually, since at the moment it's the only reason I'm on DisneyPLus at all

That all might change once the "old stuff" moves over from Netflix. I've got 7-year olds, so I may have no choice in the matter.

reply

Oh, really? You know somebody who has full size Sandcrawlers and AT-STs in their back yard? This show is the first thing that looks like Star Wars since 1983. Favreau has outdone prequel Lucas.

Good news for you. . ."The Boys" hasn't ended. Season two is on the way:

The show didn't end on a cliffhanger. . .just the season. Woo hoo!

reply

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm more interested in these Disney+ shows than the actual movies.

I think they've discovered with the Mandalorian exactly what they should be doing with Star Wars.

reply

They're slowly releasing the episodes, one week at a time, on Fridays.

While TV seasons used to be 24 episodes long, the trend has been for shorter and shorter seasons... Some idiots in charge noticed that shows in Britain are often 6, 8 or 10 episodes long and for some strange reason decided to follow them. The problem with that line of thinking is when you live in Britain you don't have much else to watch, but in the US where you have streaming services coming out your ass you will find that people will move on and find a new show to watch and often not bother to try and find the next season of the short episode series. That is what will happen to Mandalorian, it isn't a bad show, pretty much like watching an old western TV series like Have Gun Will Travel or Dead or Alive... but if they go down this road of 2 months of programming and then a 10 month wait for the next season then the show will never last.

reply

Yes.

I love Supernatural and that's a rich show regarding story and fun characters and it has 24 shows and is on every year. Are their writers super productive geniuses? I doubt it.

The eight shows and a long wait thing seems cheap but ineffective because of what you've said.

I just watched the Witcher and it was slow and a little dull. Eight episodes and then in 2021, I heard, season 2.

What?!

reply

It was a safe bet the show would be fairly successful, but at more than $15 million per episode they needed a hit. The first season was made short so they could see how well it was received. I'm guessing season 2 will be somewhere in the 10-13 episode range. But post-production ultimately caps the length of individual seasons (assuming you want premiere dates about a year apart). The effects are movie quality and take time to render.

Even this shortened 8 part debut was the equivalent of two feature length films. If you wanted 24 episodes you'd either have to triple the size of your staff - increasing the already sky high budget - or let close to three years pass between seasons. That's assuming you could write 24 solid scripts a year. And if those long ass seasons taught us anything it's that network shows are chock full o' filler. Including so-called "clip shows", episodes consisting entirely of flashbacks with just a few minutes' worth of new footage to set up the trip down memory lane.

Hey, I'd love it if they could take the huge SW fictional universe and just go nuts. The sky's the limit. Travel anywhere and everywhere, meet bizarre and fascinating people and ... you guessed it ... kill them. See what kind of extreme environments and species you can come up with to keep the novelty effect. Huge amounts of background material have been created for the franchise. For instance, I saw one post on another forum that talked about those blue aliens with the tentacles on their heads (remember the brother and sister from last week?). Apparently they come from a planet that's close to its star and tidally locked with one side perpetually facing it. The only habitable part is a strip of land in the middle where the sun is just above, or just below, the horizon. That might be a cool world to visit for an episode or two. Of course I don't want to guess what the annual bankroll would be for 20-24 eps. of that series. Even the evil Disney empire doesn't actually have bottomless pockets!

reply

Shows on net works have 20+ episodes and some have a lot of special effects. Plus, I can get them over antenna.

I'm not paying to watch shows that don't go anywhere and are only brief things to look forward to.

Who said I have a subscription to Di$ney+? When you shop at the Torrent Store, the price is always right! 😳

reply

I have bad skills!

Do you use a VPN?

Do you torrent on your TV or computer?

reply

I had no idea it was only episodes until recently i thought it would be at least 10 or so. But it ended well with a great last one.

reply

They have all been fairly fun episodes, but it has no real plot!!

One of my favorite shows is Supernatural. They have like 24 episodes and there has never been a "bad" one. That's on a broadcast channel too, so I don't have to pay for it.

This I am paying for as I am Netflix and Amazon. I want like 20 shows or I'm going to start pirating this shit.
