show is aimless
what is the point
shareI partially agree. I've consistently felt that the show is just "okay" despite most people apparently thinking it's great. I think the episodes are too short & the one episode a week approach instead of having the Netflix binge option makes it even worse.
It is starting to feel like a lot of episodic filler being stretched out which makes sense considering this show was apparently supposed to be a standalone film before it was turned into a series.
I like the show, but I too don't understand why so many people consider it to be great. People think this is as good as the original trilogy?!?!? Crazy.
shareYou can't really compare this show with the movies. Instead of a grand story arc about the rise and fall of empires and the destiny of life in the galaxy, we're following one guy's exploits as he moves through the vast world Star Wars has built. They're giving us a ground level perspective and showing the lives of average people. Except for the fact that the show exists in the same fictional universe as the films it's a completely different take.
I like the way they combine the serialized story, Mando going on the run with Baby Yoda to keep him safe, with the story-of-the-week in the places he goes. It's a lot like classic westerns with the traveling gunfighter character moving from town to town, doing whatever work he can find and sometimes helping the locals with their problems when his particular skillset is needed. Sooner or later Mando will have to track down whoever's put the contract out on his adorable little passenger but I'm enjoying the ride enough that if it doesn't get resolved this season I won't be too disappointed.
We have a fascinating character, superbly acted, beautiful cinematography, compelling adventures with clever plot twists, action sequences that are well choreographed and understated by today's standards, and each episode tells one self-contained story while gradually building a larger narrative. What more do you want from a TV show?
shareWe have a fascinating character, superbly acted
Wait, what plot twists?
sharePedro Pascal is wearing a suit of armor he never removes onscreen. We don't get to see his facial expressions. Even his voice sounds like it's coming out of a walkie talkie. Yet somehow he manages to breathe life and emotion into this character anyway. Helmets off to the man!
shareAgreed, Filmbuff. These stupid kids don't know what the hell they're talking about!
shareI think it's supposed to be. I'm really enjoying it but i'm not sure this show will be remembered well. It's entire purpose for existing seems to be just getting the ball rolling, getting production elements in line, getting people to use the service, that sort of thing.
shareThat's retarded lol what is the point in any of the Star wars films or series's?
For our entertainment....And this show is very entertaining IMO.
The show is okay at best.
The music sucks. It gives no ambiance of the Star Wars universe.
As Robot Head said, there's a lot of scenes of him just walking and he doesn't walk with determination. It's more like moseying down the street. It looks wimpy.
Yeah, we see flashes of his past, but he's a Mandalorian. "This is the way." Shouldn't the Manadalorian code take precedent over his past?
He's too kind. As a Mandalorian, the sight of him should garner respect and fear. Instead of being vigilant, he's way too naive.
Yeah. I don't want to bag on the show too much cause it's nice to enjoy something for once. But I have noticed that physically, this guy isn't the strongest actor. This character has to 100 percent express himself through movements alone. And he has a really dippy walk. I honestly think the actor probably can't see shit and it's hard to move around in that gettup. But this isn't a sure, confident deadly man strutting the streets. I mostly like what he's doing with the voice, which is the quiet-cool Clint Eastwood approach. But half the show is the dude walking. And he don't walk cool.
I don't mind him being too much of a nice guy and not living up to the norms of Mandalorian-hood. Because the way his fellow brothers treat him, I get the feeling they pretty much feel the same way about him. Making him something of an outsider.
You remember the scene when Lando and Boba Fett where waiting outside as Han was being tortured? They can hear the torturing and they both look at each other. The slow head turn says he's a bad ass. Also, the original Boba Fett voice is far superior. That's the type of acting we should get. In that last episode, that mouthy mechanic should've been put in her place. He should've only said, "You'll get paid. Fix it. No droids." That's it.
