Wow talk about a terrible father, he hooks up with a former cult member whos obviously screwed up, then takes his kids along with her out in the middle of nowhere in the snow to a cabin, then leaves his two kids alone with this mentally unstable former cult member for days.
I mean in what world would any sane rational father do this? Then surprise surprise he comes back and shes lost her mind and ends up killing all of them.
No father would. It's a shitty contrived movie.

See the movie would have made a bit more sense and not seemed as dumb if he had no idea about her past, and the kids found out about it after the father left and they're stuck there with her and the father has no idea about her.
By telling us the father was aware of her past cult life where everyone in the cult committed suicide, it made everything that followed his fault and it made the character look dumb as fuck, and in effect made the movie dumb as fuck. The equivalent of what he did was like hiring one of The Manson Girls to babysit your children.
Not to mention that the woman was boring as fuck. I mean... if you wanna marry a former cult member at least chose a woman with a fun personality

I can almost give him a pass for getting with her and maybe trying to help her heal from her traumatic past, but to leave his two children who just lost their mother, alone with her for days in the middle of nowhere in a blizzard i can't give a pass to that shit. Thats where the movie became dumb.

I see your point, the woman was a weirdo from the beggining... maybe if they wrote her character with another personality, a fun woman, very into kids you can understand why the father left her with his kids.

I never got a vibe that she was weird from the beginning. She struck me as the ultra normal, shy quiet type when I first saw her.

shareLet's not forget that she only lost her mind because of the kids. They gaslighted her into thinking they were dead, hid her pills, played recordings of her dad's sermons, and got her dog killed.
As questionable as it may have been to leave her alone with the kids, it was the kids that were the complete psychos for going so far to get back at her when she was genuinely trying to get along with them.
