who is a better actor brad pitt or leonardo decaprio?

brad pitt

I'd say DiCaprio because overall he shows more range. This being said, DiCaprio is also the more overrated of the two.

I used to care about stuff like this. I grew out of it. :D But aight, I’ll join the fun.

According to many, Leo has more range than Brad and has arguably taken more demanding (or perhaps showier) roles than Brad over the last several years. I might party agree with the latter.

Still, ‘far as I’m concerned Pitt has proven to be no less of a versatile actor than Leo. Looking at some of Brad’s best performances (Twelve Monkeys, The Assassination of Jesse James, Snatch, Fight Club, etc), and I don’t hesistate for a second to say that his best work is up there with Leo’s best. Yup. Brad also seems to take far more risks as an actor and isn’t concerned about being involved in a dud, unlike Leo. Moreover, I frankly consider Brad a more naturalistic actor than Leo. I mean, for all his talent, imo Leo turned into quite the overactor - in a couple of films anyway. For example, in films such as The Departed, J. Edgar, Revolutionary Road, and Shutter Island, I sometimes get distracted by Leo because in my eyes it’s apparent that he tries so hard to be serious. His facial expressions and body movements can be so in-your-face at times that it feels... unnatural. Brad, on the other hand, has always been a more subtle and yet magnetic screen presence.

Don’t get me wrong, I grew to appreciate Leo as an actor (I always was a fan of his pre-Titanic work and thought he was a complete natural in those early days) and find him convincing most of the time. However, it’s like the more intense his roles got after Catch Me If You Can, the more Leo became over-the-top — not all the time, but it’s something I’ve noticed in several of his more recent films. Was he really that desperate for an Oscar as some have joked? :D That said, his performance in The Revenant may be his most intense to date and he was completely believable in it.

Ultimately, I honestly wouldn’t rank one actor over the other. They’re both different but equally talented performers, if you ask me. Sure, Brad may not deliver as many attention grabbing performances as Leo does nowadays, but I do find him more interesting to watch and for me his strong acting comes off as more effortless than Leo’s. Nevertheless, I believe the two of them are world class actors and I look forward to seeing them finally share the screen.

Thanks for reminding me about Moneyball. Love that movie and totally forgot about it. Pitt's really, really good in it. Chalk one in the Pitt column for me, (that is to say, if I were tallying up all their films, he'd get a chime for $$ball. I'm still uncertain how I really feel about them).

someone said with leo he's always struggling with his confidence in acting in movies. brad is a more natural actor, he doesn't have to try to act like leo does he just acts. you don't see the acting process on screen with brad like you do with leo. also brad has more range than leo and is more dirtier with his portrayals than leo and brad gives more unpredictable performances than leo. and brad can play characters in different and harder ways than other actors would try while leo doesn't do this.

i like both of these dudes.. maybe Leo a bit more

I enjoy them equally, Pitt has probably starred in more films that I've liked, but that said I've never seen him give a performance quite as powerful as Leo in What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

But yeah, both class acts.

reply

See, I definitely feel Leo is a better actor, but Pitt's performances are so powerful, I like them infinity more. He pours his passion all over the screen. Leo never gets that deep. He never lets us see behind his curtain.

reply

exactly with pitt it's effortless and more natural and more engaging performances. he's a more seasoned actor. with pitt it's about the art form of acting and the craft of acting more than it is with leo. with leo you can see him acting, with pitt you don't because pitt doesn't just act he creates characters. its the difference between acting out a character on the page and making it your own.

while it was an all time great performance don't you think if he had that in him that he would have given more performances that great? the fact he's only done it once don't you think that means it was just a fluke and not something he has in him?

Brad Pitt is underrated for me as a actor. Di Caprio is a very good actor, like him to take more risks in his choices like he did before Titanic. Tough one to call.

For me Pitt best performances were in Fight Club, Seven, Snatch, Oceans Trilogy, Moneyball, True Romance, A River runs Through It, 12 Monkeys, Burn After Reading, Tree of Life, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Kalifornia, Babel, Killing Them Softly and Sleepers.

As for DiCaprio his best performances for me, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Revenant, Romeo and Juliet, Inception, Whats eating Gilbert Grape, Shutter Island, Catch me if you can, The Aviator, Django unchained, The Departed, Basketball Diaries, Blood Diamond, Revolutionary Road, This Boys Life and Total Eclipse.

For me Pitt has been in a few of my favorite films like Fight Club, Seven, True Romance, Tree of Life, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Killing them Softly (massively underrated film and performance). Leo I think his best work was before he hit it big with Titanic, Basketball Diaries, Gilbert Grape and This Boys life are his best performances imo. I go Pitt for me on this one.

you know i just talked to my friend about his. he brought up a very interesting point. with brad pitt he always makes his characters relatable no matter how out of this world they are ala benjamin button. whereas dicaprio he gives performances about people you are never going to meet, talking a way you never have heard, doing things you've never been around, acting in ways you've never seen a person act in, and so since you can't relate to them they are less believable and don't touch you as much as pitt's characters.

pitt always grounds his characters so you can feel them, you can understand what they are going through, the feeling, emotions, pain, loss, everything. so it's not even close if you think about pitt and dicaprio. i mean the only times dicaprio has ever played relatable characters is in what's eating gilbert grape, the revenant, and titantic. notice 2 of those 3 were made before he became a superstar actor.

also whenever dicaprio says lines in movies they can only be said in the exact words he uses and in only the ways that he says these words. everything is so dramatic and unflexible which makes it so where its not a creative as pitt is with his line readings and this way it's too dramatic and it's like stage acting whereas pitt shows versatility in line readings.

when dicaprio acts it resonates but not in a relatable way whereas when pitt acts it resonates in a very relatable way

Your friend and I have to meet. We are on the same wavelength. That’s my problem with Leo. He is good, but he doesn’t take you completely to where to the character should. He doesn’t dig deep enough and make the character relatable. Whenever I see Leo acting, I want to root for him, but all he does he yell at me and furrow his brows. I see the passion, but not the soul when he acts. And I agree with the term “unflexible”. It’s like he’s so set in his ways of how an actor should act, and he never goes outside that. He’s too perfect. Brad Pitt doesn’t care if his performance is a hit or miss and that in itselt makes him more relatable.

I dislike them both. They're not the most horrible actors in Hollywood, but I almost never find them believable as the characters they're portraying. They belong in the same category as Daniel Day-Lewis, putting on a weird costume and a fake moustache and acting quirky and over-the-top is apparently their idea of good acting.

I think they both are two of the finest actors of modern times and I really enjoy both of them.

They both give good bjs
