Helen Hunt's face

What the hell happened? She looks like an alien.

She doesn't look like an alien in the least. She is very skinny. She lost her baby fat that made her so cute before. Maybe he is a health but, or maybe she is ill, but it's a bit noticeable every time you see her which detracts a bit from anything she is starring in.

I've scoured the internets to find this exact discussion. (And I'm happy to have found this site in doing so!)

I love the woman dearly, so I hate to even think such things, but yeah, it was incredibly distracting, and, honestly, quite frightening to look at.

The odd part, though, is that her face still had wrinkles... Like, okay, clearly she's no stranger to a facelift, but up close, the skin isn't stretched tight like it appears from a distance. You can clearly see "natural" wrinkles.

I've looked at some pictures on her IMDb page, pictures taken at the movie's premiere, and she looks pretty decent. You can tell she's had some work done, but she still looks like Helen Hunt. Yet in the movie itself, you're right, she looks like an alien or like she's wearing a creepy mask.

The sad thing is that I'm sure she would've aged beautifully had she aged naturally.

I'm surprised the frog-mask guy didn't yelp when she peeked under the bed lol

My thought when I saw her full-face closeup for the first time was, She looks like a hag. Also that her face looked flattened on one side compared to the other, which seemed odd.

She did look old compared to other movies I've seen her in -- admittedly not recent movies, as I've never been a fan of hers.

My Dad and I watched this last night and we were so shocked at her appearance. It was very distracting during her scenes. She has aged a lot. What was strange, was the top part of her face looked okay, different, buy okay. Then the lower half starting about her nose, just looked like a very old man. The tiny shriveled up mouth and lips. The lines around her
mouth didn't match the smooth area around eyes. Very strange. I don't see face lift, I actually thought she needed one. My guess is major botox around her eyes but neglected work for mouth and chin. Her close up scenes were overshadowed by me trying to figure out what the heck was going with her appearance. She is almost unrecognizable. I made notice of this because she is not much older than me. I tend to check out the aging processes of other people in my age range. Some look beautiful and remain youthful, while others shrivel up.

I think you are absolutely right! She's either gotten a face lift or done a bunch of other work (botox, fillers, etc.) to part of her face, but has done nothing to her mouth, which looks non-existent. You wouldn't even know it was there if not for all the vertical lip lines around it. I think if she just goes to a good cosmetic doctor, he or she can fix everything. No shame in getting some work done -- even a lot of it -- but you really have to go to someone who knows what they are doing!

I rarely post, but I felt I had to chime in to this thread.

I *really* enjoyed this movie, but was absolutely distracted by Helen Hunt’s face. I kept thinking it looked like the guy from the beginning of Alien Prometheus or Odo from Star Trek.

I feel bad for her that she felt she needed to have a facelift (or whatever it is she did). Hopefully this was RIGHT after surgery and her lift/injections have settled because she always seemed like a beautiful woman who would have aged beautifully.

Aside from her face I really enjoyed the film!

So she's either aged a lot or maybe it's related to cosmetic surgery?

The industry is quite brutal to aging women (unless you happen to be an elite actor like Judi Dench or Meryl Streep and you can always get good work) so sometimes aging female actors will resort to cosmetic surgery to not miss out on good roles

Ralph Fiennes is younger than her and IMO has aged worse. He was once very handsome and now he's balding and getting tubbier and yet no one scrutinizes him. I'm not trying to pick on Ralph, he was just the first example that popped into my head. I'm a big fan he's aging naturally and gracefully as he has every right to do. Just pointing out the double standard between male and female actors. And he COULD get hair plugs, but then people would just make fun of him for getting hair plugs

What is the need to say Hunt looks like an alien? That's the kind of mean-spirited unnecessary scrutiny that causes these women (and sometimes men too) to get drastic cosmetic surgeries in the first place. And that's just speculation, I don't know if she has or hasn't gotten work done. I don't personally care how she looks, I'll still be happy to watch her work as she's always been a very solid actress

Dude. Look at her face. She does not look human.

reply

What if aliens look exactly like humans? The Helen Hunt would look less like an alien than "humans" do. We have never seen an alien so there is no way of knowing. Checkmate

Or, a wise owl.

I saw that. Only creepy thing about this lame movie.

Looked like she cut off someone’s face and stretched the skin over hers.
