I kind of like this show - it's trek and yet it's not trek. Discovery is surprisingly decent as well, featuring some great writing. This show, however, is likely to fail because it doesn't really know what it wants to be. Some episodes are funny, while others are serious. I suspect that ratings will go lower and lower to a point of of no return.

The good news is, it has already been signed on for the second season, so we should still see plenty of Orville until the end of S2.

I think they need to make some of the jokes a bit more intelligent and better fitting to the scenes and then it'll be right.

Sometimes the gags are dumb and out of place for a scene and I try to just ignore them.

Where did you see that it was renewed? And why would news proving its success convince you it will fail??

Thats what I was going to say. I summed up the OP as saying.
"This show will fail, but good news is its going to get a season 2".

This thread will fail more likely, and the show will do great.

There's no "serious episodes", every episode has a mix of funny moments and serious moments, which is great. It's a hybrid spoof, and the jokes don't need to "fit the scene".

The Orville knows exactly what it is. Why does it need to fit some mold or "category"? People want new and fresh and creative, and that's what this show is and why it should keep going.

These characters are not heroes, but chickens, like we would be in the same circumstances. They make jokes to try to paper over their nervousness.

Chicken arent chosen for a union spaceship. Thats why its simply stupid and lazy script writing.

There are over 3,000 ships in the fleet. That's a lot of personnel. Bound to be a few chickens here and there.

I presume that at the infinite depth of union space there will be enough tough heroes to control a3000 spaceships. So sorry, no chicken at all at spaceships.

I see. The union has at least half a dozen species in its area (shown til now at the show). And all of them are chicken. Cause otherwise there wont be any chciken aboard any Union spaceship :) .

it is turning into a Conan type show. It's basic cable now but it has some steam left I'm hoping, COVID messed everything up , that and a ton of restaurants across the country that Gordon Ramsay was gonna try to save.

I loved season 1&2, but I am so tired of hearing about season 3. It’s been years since season 2. I think it’s time to just end it. I was so excited to hear there was going to be a third season. But know I am just tired. Other shows have been able to continue a lot quicker, so no of this pandemic crap. Also knowing that season 3 will be the end of the show is so depressing. I don’t care if there is a season 3 and I probably won’t watch it. I will just enjoy the first 2 and bid The Orville a sad farewell. If I thought there was a chance at more seasons I could enjoy season 3, but not after this long wait and nothing after 3.

I'd like the show if they'd tone the political rheteric down a notch. But I guess seth mcfarlene can't help himself.
