Quit the side stories

I had a hard time getting into season 2. I think I know why. I'm gearing up for a Fincher show about serial killers and I'm getting subplots about their off-duty lives. I know it's there to build the characters but it's honestly taking me out of the show.

It's too much of the hour going into this. How many times did I need to see Trench go back to a miserable wife to get it? I don't even understand the point of Carr's character in season 2. She doesn't have a plot except to figure out her sexuality. That's not the point of the show.

I'd prefer they simply focus on the buildup of the division and the investigations. Either that or show the characters interacting more discussing their home lives than showing the characters' home lives individually. I'm wondering if I'm alone with that. Anyone else have that feeling?

I just rewatched the whole series and I had to skip all the home lives rubbish, it's even worse second time around. Nancy and her kid crucifying weirdo son, the tedious and awful Debbie, just insufferable stuff. I didn't mind Wendy's scenes, worth it for the epic burn she gave the bartender dyke at the end of their relationship.

They've done this in TV shows for decades though, I'm not sure why they're still convinced any of us remotely care about the private lives of these characters to this extent.

I have to agree with the OP on this one. I just finished season one and I am into season two. Heard so much about this show that I was looking forward to it. Ford and Tench have so much on their plate with these intense stories. But their private lives just call a screeching halt to their fascinating professional lives.

“We interrupt this crime drama for a time out to examine the whiny, boring women in their lives”. It’ like a commercial break for advertising, “Don’t get married. Stay single”.😒

Ford’s girlfriend was working and had plans to go for a doctorate. Why was she being a pain in the butt because her boyfriend was busy too?

Tench’s wife sure had her hands full with holding down the fort alone and dealing with a strange kid with mental problems. But couldn’t she give her husband a break? The guy’s job with extremely stressful. I may be an old fashioned gal, but I think a wife should try to create a relaxing, pleasant home life for her husband to return to. Especially if he has a job like Tench and she does not work outside the home.

It was really irritating when the men at the barbecue asked Tench about his work and he started to talk about it. They were fascinated about hearing stuff about Kemper and Richard Speck. It wasn’t like he dragged them off and forced them to listen! They wanted to hear his stories.

But Nancy interrupted and scolded him for talking about his job. The one wife shuddered and said she didn’t sleep for a month after the Speck murders. Well fine! Don’t listen. Go off and trade recipes with the other wives. I for one, would have been all ears and fascinated to hear him speak

But the man is scolded in his own backyard. It’s HIS house too! He pays the mortgage. Why can’t he talk about what he wants in his own home?

And anyway, it’s not like Nancy was some gorgeous looker that he couldn’t wait to come home to. No looks and no personality either.
