Star Trek fans hate this and love "The Orville"

Because of the nostalgia effect
This series challenges their beliefs, meanwhile The Orville is a parody and that's why they allow themselves to like it

reply

What beliefs does it challenge?

reply

Eh, people are stupid and over emotional. Not saying its perfect at all but this is leagues better than Orville in every sense and this is coming from ST fan. The attention to detail, dialog, tech. speak, worlds, costumes is lightyears better than Orville. Not to mention Orville's stories and narration are as straight as an arrow and predictable AF, the exact opposite of what ST always was.

So called Beatles "fans" love to hear "Yesterday" all day and hate "Taxman"...

I don't think it's the majority of ST fans but a very vocal minority. Nothing new for when a new ST series starts.

Most of the criticisms that come up are just as applicable (often even more so) to previous ST series, or it's too early to tell if they're really an issue. I say if you're okay with the updates, changes, and additions that 1990s Trek series made to the existing Trek canon, then it's hard to justify not being okay with the same thing 13 years after the last 1990s-era Trek ended. I grew up with TNG airing. I enjoyed it at the time, and I quite enjoy Discovery now.

Also the orville has 2 sexualized characters, one of them a teen

reply

Which characters are, as you claim, sexualized?

Which of these sexualized characters is a teen?

As far as I can see the only characters younger than 20 are Dr. Finn's sons and neither of them is sexualized in any way.

I won't and can't speak for anyone else, but I'm a long time Trek fan (late 60s) and I have an opinion.

I stopped watching Discovery when I decided I would rather do almost anything else than sit through it, and that realization happened half way through an episode. The Orville OTOH is the only network show I actually look forward to, and as a Seth McFarlane hater, I was primed to hate his show.

Other than McFarlane's myopic leftist views on things like religion, I enjoy the show immensely as does my wife. I was afraid it was going to be Trek meets Angie Tribeca, but the episodes themselves are played straight with some humor thrown in, just like TOS. In any case, none of the episodes have been as silly as I Mudd...

Yep, it challenges my belief that Paramount will ever release a good Star Trek series/movie again! Star Trek Discovery is the worst sh*t ever done with s Star Trek logo on it. It doesnt have anything at all to do with Star Trek. Its just another boring and dark SciFi show about war in space. Thats completely braindead and not Star Trek.
