Those of you who have seen it, what's your honest opinion?

I disparaged the movie before it came out because I'd prefer they make movies for women that are original. Now that it's been out for a while, I'm curious as to what people who've seen it actually think about it.

Thanks for all your comments. I'll watch it when it comes on television.

I don't care for the PC trend of remaking old movies with all-female casts, but this was pretty good.

It's okay. I'm not sure who this was made for. While it's certainly a chick flick, even in this regard it skews toward the smug elite. The fun factor of the previous films was completely absent. Director was certainly competent, but this movie didn't have the visual flourish and cool factor of Soderbergh's films. So when they did muscle in the soundtrack and flashy editing, it just felt jarring. This movie would have been better served standing on its own legs.

Very interesting comments. I'd love to see a heist movie with women that doesn't feel the need to piggyback on a previous franchise.

The last 20 minutes were a lot better than the first hour and a half. That's when there was a lot of big group interaction scenes, which is half the fun of the concept, all of the heist stuff was revealed, and the story motivations. And the pursuit by good guys trying to bust them. I think a second outing would be a better film. Sandra Bullock can be quite charming but for some reason was playing a rather sad dour character in this, which was a bit of a buzzkill. This movie also suffered from focusing too much on today's technology. Quite a bit of this film is people looking at computers and video screens while the magical hacker punches away at the keyboard and problems simply solve themselves. Then the crux of the heist was unusually complicated for some reason, I didn't really get that. There's a few direct ties to the previous films. So this is definitely a sequel in that universe. The sooner they bring over Julia Roberts and stick in Helen Miren the better.

it was good for the most part. entertaining. I was not gonna watch at first cause it was named "Oceans 8" It could of been named something else.

reply

Popcorn films should be fun, unfortunately O8 is not, it suffers from a problem shared by far too many films of recent years, namely being dull and forgettable. Having said that, O12 was also a dull tedious mess.

I didn't like Ocean's 12 either. An attempt to make an artsy-fartsy box office picture. Didn't work (the third one, however, is very entertaining)

Just saw it with my wife. We enjoyed it. Personally, I thought it was better than Ocean's 12, but not as good as 11 and 13. It was a decent heist movie though. It's nothing ground-breaking, but if you like heist films generally, then this is worth a watch.

Forgettable.

I just watched it on a plane, as there was no other choice that I hadn’t already seen. My expectations were low going in, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Not a classic by any means, but if you’ve got a couple of hours to kill....
