Why was Nelson going after Ruth?

I still don't get why Nelson was coming to kill Ruth out of the blue, Camila at that point didn't know Ruth was the one who killed Javi, Navarro had no reason to have Ruth killed, who was Nelson acting on behalf of?

reply

My guess is because at that point Ruth didn’t want to launder money at the Belle. Nelson had already threatened Rachel because of that. Omar was probably behind it.

reply

But i didn't think Omar knew anything about Ruth not wanting to launder the money, we never got a scene of him finding out, Wendy tasked Nelson with threatening Rachel, but i figured if Omar found out about it we'd have been shown it. And when Nelson goes missing/killed Omar doesn't even consider that it could be Ruth the girl he sent him to kill? I dunno.

Part of me thinks Wendy could've sent him to kill her, but again not sure why we wouldn't be shown or told about it.

reply

It could have been Wendy but maybe it was more to threaten than kill. (Can't remember if he had his gun out but makes sense to do so in the Ozarks)

reply

its been a minute since I watched but I seem to remember Wendy calling Nelson and asking for a favor having to do with Ruth

reply

She called Nelson to threaten Rachel, but we never saw her call him again telling him to threaten or kill Ruth.

reply

That makes the most sense though. Marty wouldn't have sent a hit man after Ruth, to threaten her or to kill her.
Nelson was probably following up on Wendy's original request, since Rachel wouldn't go along, and was going to threaten Ruth next.

The show left it confusing though when they didn't need to.

reply

Yeah it was a pretty big loose end, we never got clarification on what made Nelson go after Ruth that night that led to his death. I guess that does make the most sense, he was following up with Wendy's orders, just weird we never got a clear answer.

reply

Something was definitely said about it. Omar knew she was the problem.

reply

The writing got super sloppy after season one.

reply

I don't think he was there to kill anyone at all.
Later on she said something like 'right after I shot him, he had a confused look on his face'

reply

yeah, but the confused look on his face could have been the puzzled look any getter might get when the getter gets got.

reply

it was all Wendy's doing, she wanted him to threaten her because she wouldn't let the Byrdes launder the dirty money at the casino with Ruth becoming the new owner and having her record expunged.

I have another issue with the general theme of people coming to get Ruth during this period.

Why did Ruth make herself such an easy target for Camilla, when the strange vehicle sitting there unoccupied with its tail lights on was ominous / suspicious...not like stuff has not been going on lately with VERY badassed people following her and stuff.. she had also crossed Wendy's father..who could rule out even HIM coming for her, let alone the Cartel's various protuberances..he probably would not have the guts, but who knows..

She shifted heaven and earth to warn Rachel and wound up eliminating Nelson from the battlefield as well as having the job of disposing of his body as a reminder..wasn't all of this telling her she was likely to have a target on her back in general at any time? She knows who Javi was...she knows at least 4 people now know what happened to him..none of the 4 can be completely counted on not to talk about it again..she also knows she is messing with the general machinery and its lubrication with the Belle. She should have been careful+, and should have had a firearm on her person or at least in car at any time.
Now I'm sad. If she survived /bettered Camilla, I'd have been happy...same as I was when Darlene blew Frank away..and Darlene I did not particularly like anyway, but FrankC I could not stand ... lol.
