They did Kong dirty

He didn't just lose, he lost twice. The best they could give him was 'a round" in the second fight. And he didn't just lose twice, they went out of their way to make him look like a clown at various times throughout the movie.

Everyone was saying Kong had no chance before hand. He was already at a disadvantage because of the fact that he's not a nuclear-based nearly invulnerable creature. It's just what he is. He's not invulnerable like a lot of the Godzilla monsters. We all know that. You'd think given that, they would try a little harder to make it an even playing field, but they actually did the OPPOSITE. They made Kong look weaker multiple times throughout the movie.

Kong was sedated during their first fight. They stated this. You can actually see some kind of container/viles on the back of his collar before he rips it off, which implies he was still being drugged right up until the fight. It's not like someone gave him a needle and that was it. That's disadvantage #1. Then the fact that they made the fight over water is disadvantage #2. Godzilla being nearly invulnerable and having an advantage over water wasn't enough. Kong needed to be doped up too. Why they felt the need to make the smaller, weaker, less vulnerable of the 2 even more disadvantaged is beyond my comprehension.

Then when they go to Hollow Earth, Kong fights those dragon things. One of them wraps him up and appears to suffocate him with its wing. The humans have to help him out! What the actual fuck?! Why was this necessary?!

I thought the fights were really fun. They were well-done. But the longer the movie went on, there was stuff about it that didn't add up and this was one of them. They clowned Kong. They didn't overcompensate in attempt to make him on Godzilla's level, they did things to make him look WEAKER. I don't know what they were thinking with that.

Kong is a victim of one-sided writers. I have a un-biased view of these characters, and I'm sure Kong would hands down beat Godzilla if it were actual "reality". Not saying Godzilla is a dummy, but Kong is a thinking primate. His physical strength is nothing that Godzilla would have a chance against. Godzilla's only chance to beat him would be to combat him in water, or hope he can roast him before Kong could easily get the upper hand. Kong could outthink him, and once he got his mitts on him, it would be over.

reply

Also Kong is fast, Godzilla is not. Kong should have the upper hand in close range fight. Kong's skill on using the axe still has room for improvement.

reply

I did he DID have an advantage at close range.

reply

I am a Kong guy, but I don't agree it would be a cakewalk for Kong. Not a chance. Godzilla is waaaay more durable and has nuclear fire breath. Kong has hands, is smarter, and faster. I would say there's no reason to believe their strength isn't comparable. In no way, shape, or form would it be an easy win for Kong.

Ehh, I like Kong, too, but unless he's equipped with full body armor and atomic axes in each hand, he loses every single time.

In Round 3, when Godzilla stopped toying with him we saw what Godzilla can do using all of his assets -- claws, breath, biting, and tail. Kong just didn't have an answer for that.

I thought the fight choreography -- despite the absurdity of the movie itself -- was extremely realistic for what it was. If you note, during Round 3 Godzilla wasted ZERO time or energy. He got on all fours to avoid Kong's reach and punches (which is what predators do to get close to prey with dangerous vertical reach), and he completely took Kong off his feet with his tail.

Again, unless Kong had some kind of armor, there's just no realistic answer to Godzilla's tail.

Also, even with his "mitts" on Godzilla, what does he do? Godzilla has an extremely tiny oral cavity and an extremely large muscular jowl, jaw, and neck, plated with nearly indestructible scales. Breaking his neck is out of the question, and pummeling Godzilla to death doesn't work.

Godzilla had been fighting battles against all manner of creatures for thousands of years. There is no scenario where Kong "out thinks" a creature as experienced and hardened by combat as Godzilla.

The first two rounds was mostly Godzilla toying with Kong, and even in Round 2 Godzilla was willing to let Kong go so he could go up and destroy Mechagodzilla/Ghidora 2.0 before it was activated, but Kong insisted on fighting Godzilla.

The only advantage Kong had on Godzilla was his agility, but every attack against Kong from Godzilla was deadly, whereas every attack from Kong stunned Godzilla at most. The only weapon he had that was effective was the atomic axe, which was made from the fin of a Godzilla creature. So even then, the only way Kong could beat Godzilla was with a piece of Godzilla.

So is this like Rocky? Are we headed for a sequel with a rematch?

reply

lol no.

Kong got stomped just like how most people predicted.

The trailers made it look like it would be an even fight, but doing the basic feats and measuring their skillsets against each other, the outcome in the movie really did make the most sense.

reply

Toho owns Godzilla and I've been reading that there are lots of stipulations for this character, so perhaps that influenced the story of Godzilla v Kong.

reply

Damn, bringing reality into the picture and shit

reply

Kong was the "main character", but it was absolutely a movie for Godzilla fans. This monsterverse is all about Godzilla.

reply

Yeah that's a good way to sum it up.

Kong is always the more sympathetic out of all the creatures in the monsterverse, and his story is almost always steeped in tragedy. Godzilla is just pure bada$$ and I'm glad that this time around we're seeing what a fully realized, no-nonsense Godzilla would be like if he just came to take care of business, kick butt, and go home.

His most impressive showing out of his entire legacy is still in King of Monsters when he turned into Burning Godzilla/Atomic Godzilla, and just melted the ever-living crap out of King Ghidora. That was beyond bada$$.
